1. Introduction Summary
Mr James Davidson has purchased the portfolio of properties over the last 20 years. He
has purchased some of the larger properties after migrating to Australia in July 2002,
seeing huge opportunity to invest in high value land and the cattle business.
The properties now are primarily used for grazing and Mr Davidson sees the huge
untapped potential and value to back ground young cattle for lot feeding.
This is also part of his vision to expand in to the Tablelands beef Australia project.
This will only further enhance the value of these properties.
The properties are mostly fertile red volcanic soils and in high rainfall areas around 2
meters per year. The properties all have running water and dams and some have
irrigation facilities.
They also are on main roads with all year round access by semi-trailers for cost
efficiencies cattle transportation. They are all recently perimeter and paddock fenced
with 4 stands wire.
They have been grouped together will the view of cost effective cattle handling and
large yard facilities.

2. Why these properties
The properties are all in fertile volcanic soils. They all grazes up to 1 beast – per acre.
They get reliable all year round rainfall. They are in the wet tropics, little or no frost.
They are in large groups for cost effective handling. They hold and increase in value.
They have at least 3 major streams of income.
Primary use for cattle grazing/mining, subdivision, and Timber sales.
The cattle grazing on the tableland falls into 3 main categories.
1. Beef cattle – usually 1-2 years old cattle grass fed for the meatworks
2. Breeding herd – usually small high value breeds Angus Brangus Drought master
3. Dairy cattle – used to be over 1000 dairy farmers, now less than 50
The main benefit Mr Davidson sees is in back grounding in young cattle, this term is for
preconditioning cattle for feedlots. These properties are all ideally suited for
backgrounding and supplement feeding with cubes and molasses.
This has 2 main benefits
1. Supply of fully preconditions young cattle for feedloting
2. Full maximise the full potential return per year
For example, backgrounding 1 yearling per acre on grass and supplement feeding.
70 days preconditioning = weight gain 100kg at $1.50/kg = $150x7 = $750/year return
per acre
1 breeder cow + calf on 2 acres/calf value $300 = return per 2 years = $150/year return
per acre
Mr Davidson has done the above exercise as proof.
