TB Training Roadmap
Overview
Purpose
This Roadmap is a tool to guide public health nurses as they learn information needed to work
in TB. There are many TB resources available. The list below includes our recommendations for
a nurse new to TB. They are listed to build upon each other, and yet can be used in any order.
The following materials include both Training Materials and Resource Materials:


Training materials are designed to build knowledge, skills, or competencies in the public
health workforce. This may include self-study modules or curricula, online courses or
webinars or other materials.
Resource materials are books, brochures, articles, posters, reminder cards, and other
materials that may be very useful in your learning about TB, but are not designed
specifically for instructional use. They may also be used as materials for patient education.
A wider list of these kinds of materials can be found at www.findtbresources.org.
This document is hyperlinked to make materials more accessible. To use the hyperlinks, you
must access this Roadmap electronically. You can access the hyperlinks in two ways:
a) Put your cursor on the blue text and click. The document will open in another browser.
b) Right click on the blue text. In the drop-down menu, select “open hyperlink.”
Supervisor Instructions:
Select which Roadmap materials you want your employee to review by checking the
appropriate boxes. You can also edit this Word document to create a personalized learning
guide; add or delete materials to suit your employee’s needs. For example, you can delete a
line in the table for topics that are not relevant for your employee. You can also add lines; for
example, add your local/state policies and forms. Remind your employee the Roadmap can be
completed over a period of time; it is not intended to be finished in one day.
Employee Instructions:
Give this form to your supervisor and ask them to suggest which materials you should review.
Once you have a customized Roadmap Training Plan, go through the materials at your own
pace and keep track of when you’ve reviewed them. The Roadmap can be completed over a
period of time; it is not intended to be finished in one day.
