Curriculum vitae
I was born in Marino (Roma), Italy, on December 28th 1973. I had a degree in Geological
Sciences and a Ph.D. in Geodynamics in 2002 and 2006, respectively, from the
Department of Earth Sciences at University of Roma Tre, Rome (Italy). From 2006 to 2011
I had a Post Doc fellowship at the Department of Geological Sciences (Roma Tre
University), and from 2011 to 1013 at Department of Physic and Earth Sciences (Parma
University, Italy). I participated at 9 short course in Tectonics and Structural Geology. In
2009 I was visiting researcher at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN),
Brazil. In 2012 I had a “Royal Society” fellowship sponsored by the Italian Accademia
Nazionale dei Lincei to perform friction experiments at Department of Earth Sciences,
Durham (UK). I was convener and co-convener of 10 scientific sessions at European
Geoscience Union, General Assemblies, Vienna. I am reviewer of scientific articles in
peer-review international journals of Geology, Structural Geology, Tectonics, and
Geodynamics. I am a contract researcher at Department of Physic and Earth Sciences
“Macedonio Melloni”, Parma University, Italy. I am scientific coordinator of Laboratory of
Microstructures and Petrophysics. I was involved in Italian PRIN projects and I am
currently involved in research projects funded by oil company (SHELL, PETROBRAS;
ENI). I participated to 3 field expeditions in Antarctica funded by “Progetto Nazionale di
Ricerche in Antartide”. I am involved in teaching support activities in the courses of
Tectonics and Structural Geology. I was co-supervisor and supervisor of 8 master thesis
and degree thesis in Geology. In 2012-2013 I taught "Structural Geology and Tectonics"
course at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. I am author and coauthor of more
than 20 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals, and I authored more than
80 oral and poster presentations at national and international scientific congresses.
Research Projects
I am involved in the following research projects:





Crotone basin (Calabria, Italy) to investigate the signatures of the seismic cycle (in
collaboration with N. De Paola, Durham University, UK).

constraining palaeofluid flow directions and velocities in faulted groundwater
reservoirs;
Deformation and petrophysical properties in poorly lithified sediments of the
Barreiras Sandstones (NE Brazil) and analysis of diagenetic alterations (iron oxide
concretions and Liesegang band patterns) to constrain palaeofluid flow around fault
zones (in collaboration with F.H.R. Bezerra, UFRN University, Brazil);
Deformation and neotectonics in Paraiba and Pernambuco basins in NE Brazil (in
collaboration with D. Rossetti, UFSP, and M. Vieira and F.H.R. Bezerra, UFRN
University, Brazil);





Relationships among deformation and dolomitization along fault zones developed in
layered limestones of the Northern and Central Apennines (in collaboration with R.
Swennen, KU Leuven University, Belgium; funded by Shell);
Structural diagenesis of the Jabal Qusaibah anticline, Oman, and anatomy and
palaeofluid flow of extensional and strike-slip fault zones associated with this fold (in
collaboration with R. Swennen, Leuven University, Belgium; funded by Shell);
Fracturing modes in folded siliciclastic turbidites (funded by Petrobras);
Cenozoic tectono-magmatic evolution of the Ross Sea Region, Antarctica (in
collaboration with colleagues from Roma Tre, Pisa, and Bremen Universities, and
the Italian CNR).
Geometrical complexities associated with the Campo Imperatore extensional fault
system, L'Aquila, Italy, and coseismic signature (in collaboration with G. Di Toro,
University of Padova, Italy).
Research themes
My research interests include the study of (1) quantification of brittle deformation pattern
associated with fault zones in different tectonic contexts, (2) petrophysical changes
induced by development of fault zones, (3) diagenetic alterations (concretions, Liesegang
bands) as a tool to reconstructs fossil fluid flows around fault zones, (4) coseismic
signature recorded in fault zones developed in poorly lithified sediments and granular
materials.
