Program changes include: 1) a change in the name of this program from “Graphic Arts & New Media” to “Design;” 2)
students pursuing a BFA emphasis in Design would follow the same curriculum as the other Bachelor of Fine Arts
emphases (i.e., Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Interdisciplinary Media and now
with this change, Design as an option, instead of Graphic Arts & New Media; 3) a reduction from 75 to 73 of the major
credit load by virtue of its alignment with the other emphases; 4) a reduction of studio electives by three credits, offset
by an increase of three in required studio courses with the addition of ARTS 489; 5) the addition of ARTS 239, 339,
COMM 118, 141, 230, 321, 332 and 421 as art electives; and 6) a reduction of three credits in required 100-level art
history courses by consolidating the two semester survey into one semester. This is a sample plan reflective of a
typical student.
