The “Central Library Lines” earrings and pendants showcase a titanium engraving of a section of the building’s exterior that’s recognized by tourists, but subtle enough for local admirers to wear. Seattle’s iconic Central Library building is celebrating its tenth anniversary in May, 2014. The FriendShop manager Lisa Lee wanted something special that spoke to the library’s true fans, not only tourists – a classic design with a timeless modern feel. Lee challenged Jones to design the perfect piece: the “Central Library Lines” earrings and pendants are the result of their collaboration. Stainless steel and titanium are lightweight, allowing eye-catching but easy-to-wear jewelry designs. “Like the Central Library, this jewelry looks dramatic but quickly becomes part of your everyday life. You know that feeling you get inside the library, surrounded by light and knowledge? I tried to turn feeling that into jewelry, so you can take it with you everywhere,” Jones said. The FriendShop (operated by the Friends of The Seattle Public Library) is an innovative gift shop on Level 3 of the Central Library. The 300-square-foot shop opens and closes using a track mounted in the floor, and offers work from local Northwest artists as well as images from the library’s striking architecture. The Friends of The Seattle Public Library is a non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our Library as an essential institution of our society and supporting its mission and vision. Volunteer members advocate for, educate about and raise funds on behalf of The Seattle Public Library. Wraptillion sells Washington-made jewelry to museum stores, galleries, and boutiques around the country, including the FriendShop and the Museum of Flight. Wraptillion jewelry is made from American-manufactured steel hardware linked with titanium, using chainmaille techniques. Owner/designer Kelly Jones is a former children’s librarian and has a soft spot for libraries.
