January 26, 2015 GLOBAL MESSENGER FOR DAIS FAMILIES: A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPALS: We would first like to thank all of our DAIS families for their flexibility and cooperation with the changes to the schools calendar of events during times of inclement weather. With the winter weather upon us, this is a good time to remind parents/guardians to make sure children are dressed appropriately for the cold temperatures. On Thursday, January 22nd, students were sent home with parent letters containing information on our upcoming Talent Development program. We are excited to offer our Talent Development Program again this spring at DAIS. This is an opportunity for students to further investigate an interest, skill, or talent. Talent Development is intended to give students the ability to pursue topics or areas of interest that are new for them. There are detailed descriptions of the courses on the DAIS website homepage (www.dallastown.net/domain/511). We encourage you to visit the website to review the power point as some of the offerings are for beginner levels and other courses have prerequisites for admission. Please review the parent letter and course selections and have your child return their completed and signed form to their homeroom teacher by January 28th. If you should have any questions about this program or any of the course offerings, please do not hesitate to contact Theresa Lewis at Theresa.lewis@dallastown.net. As a reminder, the NAEP assessment will be held on January 27th for selected fourth grade students. If your fourth grade student received a letter regarding participation in the NAEP Assessment we encourage you to read the information provided regarding the assessment. There are several additional resources available for your review. Resources you may find valuable include: Parents’ Page on NAEP: http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/parents/, Sample Question Booklets: http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/about/booklets.aspx, and Informational Video: http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/videos/parentvideo/ (5 minutes), and What Every Parent Should Know About NAEP (PDF): http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/pdf/parents/2012469.pdf. Please make sure your student is well rested for this assessment and let’s show the nation what our students can do! The Box Tops contest is still underway! Each team is collecting Box Tops and Labels for Education so remember to check your packages and bring your box tops and labels to school! The Dallastown Foundation Scholarship Penny Wars will soon begin! Money raised through Penny Wars is deposited into an account for each graduating class. When your child’s class reaches graduation, the money is available to students through scholarships. Join us by participating in the Penny Wars! See the attachment for more details.
