Objectives for Marking Period: (SWBAT)
- Identify genocides that have occurred on the African Continent
- Debate the impact of European colonialism and current attitudes toward
Africa
- Interpret and discuss the rebuilding process occurring in current day
Rwanda.
- Interpret and discuss the genocide on Darfur and argue what role America
should play in helping end the conflict.
- Interpret the meaning of different art work completed by children in Darfur.
- Debate the role the world should play in remembering and preventing
genocides.
- Identify possible genocides that have occurred in the America’s
- Debate whether or not the American slavery system was genocide.
- Debate whether or not to classify the history of the Native Americans as
genocide
-Assess the role of imperialism in genocidal policies
- Identify genocides that have occurred in Asia
- Interpret and discuss the genocide in Cambodia by previewing the film, The
Killing Fields.
- Examine the Declaration of Human Rights
- Analyze their designed definitions
- Evaluate the usefulness of the ICC
- Identify genocides that have occurred on the European Continent.
- Discuss the issues surrounding remembrance of the Armenian Genocide and
contemporary music that discusses these events.
- Assess America’s knowledge of the events that occurred during the
Holodomor.
- Identify testimony by survivors of the Holodomor.
- Identify groups associated with Holocaust denial and hate crimes.
-Identify and discuss contemporary crimes against humanity
FOR EACH CONTINENT, YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED AN ARGUMENATIVE ESSAY TO WRITE…
I will randomly assign you essays to write the focus on each of our units…(You can Swap Essay’s!)
You will have to do some outside research
