Xicotepec Project Service-Learning Trip Scholarship Award 2015 The Career Leadership Academy’s (CLA) innovative mission is to provide students from across campus with the opportunity to develop their leadership and communication skills. Because of the growing demand for employees who possess global leadership skills, CLA has expanded its focus to include developing the skill set and competence necessary to be successful in global leadership roles through courses that can be taken while a student is studying abroad. Global Leadership Initiative in Xicotepec is an academic course connected to an international service-learning spring break trip that was developed by Career Leadership Academy staff, UI faculty, and the Iowa Rotary Club District 6000. This course, allows CLA students to explore leadership from a global perspective before, during and after their travel to Xicotepec, Mexico. The Rockwell Collins Corporation generously donated money to CLA for students to travel as part of this service-learning and global leadership skill development trip. Via this application form, CLA Students can apply for Rockwell Collins scholarship awards of $1,400 per student to cover most of the costs for the trip. Up to 10 CLA students will be awarded these scholarships, take the course, and travel to Xicotepec, Mexico on March 14-22, 2015. Scholarship and Trip Eligibility: To be eligible to receive one of the Rockwell Collins scholarships, applicants must: A. Be at least a current Career Leadership Academy Phase II student (or higher) at the time of travel over spring break, OR B. Be an alumnus of the Career Leadership Academy currently taking UI courses at the time of travel over spring break. C. Enroll in the following courses during the spring semester when the trip shall take place. 421:126 Global Leadership Initiative in Xicotepec – 2 semester hours 165:126 International Perspectives Xicotepec, Mexico – 1 semester hour Selection Criteria and Submission Requirements: The successful recipient of this scholarship award will have completed and turned in the Application Form on page 2 along with the following items no later than October 10, 2015: A.
