SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Deer Breeders Corporation will be awarding scholarships to students that have
demonstrated a strong desire to work with White-tailed deer (WTD) and who are currently
enrolled in the Texas A&M University DVM program. The support for this scholarship is
provided by the Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) Vaccine program, its lead veterinarians
Dr. Dedwylder and Dr. McBride, and the DBC members.
The DBC recognizes white-tailed deer as one of the states’ greatest resources and an integral
part the growing deer industry in Texas. The DBC is a member based organization that provides
its members resources and services to assist their deer breeding programs. There is growing
demand for veterinarians with awareness for safely treating and handling white-tailed deer.
In order to be considered for a scholarship in 2013, students must meet the minimum
requirements listed below, and submit a completed application no later than June 15, 2013.
This scholarship is open to all students currently enrolled in their 2nd or 3rd year of the Texas
A&M University DVM program.
Students may be judged on the following categories:




Academic excellence
Prior work, research, or veterinary experience with cervids
Cervid Medicine Elective
Potential contributions to the Deer Industry
Minimum Student Requirements



Students must be in enrolled and in good standing with the Texas A&M University DVM
Program
Students must be in their second or third year (entering third and fourth year in the Fall)
Students awarded a Dedwylder/McBride EHD scholarship will be required to complete a
rotation with Dr. Dedwylder or Dr. McBride.

Students currently enrolled in the Texas A&M University DVM program must complete the following
application and submit it to the DBC by June 15, 2013 to be eligible for this scholarship. Students
awarded this scholarship will be required to complete a rotation with either Dr. Dedwylder or
Dr. McBride.

Winners will be announced no later than July 9, 2013 and will have until September 1, 2013
to show proof of enrollment in order to receive funds.
Recipients will be expected to attend the Fifth Annual DBC Convention scholarship ceremony
July 26-27, 2013. The convention will be held at The Westin La Cantera in San Antonio, TX.
If selected to receive a Deer Breeders Corporation Scholarship, I understand that I am expected
to attend the scholarship ceremony, provide proof of enrollment, and complete a rotation with
Dr. Dedwylder or Dr. McBride.
This signed application grants permission for the applicant to be photographed or interviewed
in connection with the potential award of a DBC scholarship. The applicant understands that
any such photograph or interview may be used by the Deer Breeders Corporation in film, visual,
graphic, electronic, printed or other media.
