Summary:
1. Meeting commenced at 6:30pm with the Opening Prayer
2. Welcome and Introductions

Members of the council introduced themselves, as well as their role on the
council
3. Commissioning of the Catholic School Council
 The commissioning of the Catholic School Council will occur on
November 10th at St. Matthews’ Parish
4. Meeting Proceedings Outlined
 Meetings will run from 6:30pm to 8:00pm
 All council members in agreement
 Discussion regarding agenda items
 Agenda items will be brought forward to the council chairs prior
to the meeting
 Recording of votes/minutes
 This record will be maintained and documented by the council
appointed secretary
 Open forum
 The final 10 minutes of the council meeting will be open for
parents guests to ask questions regarding the contents of the
council meeting
 Visitor Book
 Items of interest generated from the parent guests can be
documented and added to the agenda of the next meeting
5. Roles and Responsibilities
 The roles and responsibilities of the council members were reviewed
 Supporting documentation was signed and provided to Carol Hryhorsky
(Principal)
6. Voting of Council Positions
 Voting of Council Chairs
 Annita Pospisil put forth a motion for Fiorella Zarlenga as
Council Chair
 Leanne Federico seconded the motion for Fiorella Zarlenga as
Council Chair
 Fiorella Zarlenga motioned for a co-chair for the position of
Council Chair
 Fiorella Zarlenga put forth a motion for Annette Corneil as
Council Chair
 Annita Pospisil seconded the motion for Annette Corneil as
Council Chair
 Unanimous vote in favor of Fiorella Zarlenga as Council Chair
 Unanimous vote in favor of Annette Corneil as Council Chair
 Annette Corneil and Fiorella Zarlenga will serve as Co-Chairs
for the 2015-2016 St. Mary Catholic School Council
 Appointment of Parish Representative



Fiorella Zarlenga put forth a motion for Christa Hogan as Parish
Representative
 Annita Pospisil seconded the motion for Christa Hogan as Parish
Representative
 Unanimous vote in favor of Christa Hogan as Parish
Representative
 Christa Hogan will serve as Parish Representative for the 20152016 St. Mary Catholic School Council
Community Representative
 Fiorella Zarlenga put forth a motion for Leanne Federico as
Community Representative
 Annette Corneil seconded the motion for Leanne Federico as
Community Representative
 Unanimous vote in favor of Leanne Federico as Community
Representative
 Leanne Federico will serve as Community Representative for the
2015-2016 St. Mary Catholic School Council
Secretary
 Fiorella Zarlenga put forth a motion for Carolyn Silvestri as
Secretary
 Christa Hogan seconded the motion for Carolyn Silvestri as
Secretary
 Unanimous vote in favor of Carolyn Silvestri as Secretary
 Carolyn Silvestri will serve as Secretary for the 2015-2016 St.
Mary Catholic School Council
7. Committees of Council
 The St. Mary Catholic School Council will focus its efforts for the 20152016 on the following 4 committees: Focus on Faith, Curriculum,
Environment and Parent Engagement
 Discussion between council members was held regarding the focus of
these committees, commitment requirements and plans for the school year
 The following council members will provide leadership within the
committees
 Focus on Faith: Christa Hogan
 Environment: Anna D’Iorio
 Curriculum: Fiorella Zarlenga
 Parent Engagement: Leanne Federico
8. Meeting Dates
 The following meeting dates were proposed and approved by council:
October 5, 2015
November 2, 2015
January 11, 2016
February 1, 2016
April 4, 2016
May 2, 2016
9. Fundraising Initiatives
 Numerous fundraising initiatives were discussed and proposed by council
members
 Decision was made to survey parents regarding their preference for
fundraising initiatives. A letter will be drafted and distributed to the
parent community this week. A fundraiser for the 2015/2016 school year
will be determined by council based on the feedback provided.
10. Council Discussion
 For Halloween, a dance-a-thon will occur in the gymnasium for the entire
school population to participate in. Parents welcome to attend. Council in
agreement to provide every student with juice and cookies
 St. Mary School is in search of a noon hour supervision for the school
yard. Inquiries can be made to the school or the school board directly.
