Workshop: “Personal Historians and Genealogists, Two Worlds or One World?” presented by Connie Lenzen, a board-certified genealogist for thirty years. She is certified by the Board for Certification of Genealogists. Connie talked about how personal historians can utilize the tools and skills of professional genealogists to enhance and enrich their work and shared ways that stories can be fact-checked for accuracy and provide tips on how historical context can be located. The APH members at the meeting agreed to allow this. Chapter Mailing List: Emily Garcia is developing a chapter mailing list for our local APH group members and one for guests. She will also update the local APH Member Directory and the Internal Contact List. John Hawkins is collecting dues of $20/per person. Announcements of general interest, updates, etc. Aura Lee Loveland and Beverly Warren-Leigh briefly discussed their three-year Brix project which included preservation of documents and photos and currently two books available for sale at the Columbia River Maritime Museum and from the Appelo Archives Center: The Brix Logging Story: In the Woods of Washington and Oregon and The Brix Maritime Story: A Century of Towboating and Barging. They are in the process of completing a genealogy book for this project as well. Aura Lee and Bev also recommended the Appelo Archive Center which, according to the web site is the perfect location to find information and do research on photos, cemetery records, Finnish, Swedish and Columbia River History and also find newspapers and books on the history of the Pacific Northwest, including logging, fishing, farming, events, and music.
