ICCDE Oration – Monday 16 June 2014 – 9.00 am to 5.00 pm – 36th APDC Botox for facial dental aesthetics in the dental practice – Dr Tan Chin Hwee and Dr Raymond Chai Yeong Chang Presently at each Asia Pacific Dental Congress, the International College of Continuing Dental Education (ICCDE) will select an outstanding speaker who will make a scientific presentation during an ICCDE Oration. This year at the 36th APDC in Dubai, UAE the Oration will be on a topic which is fairly new to most dentists but something all dentists especially those practising aesthetic dentistry or dental implants will need to know. In fact whether you are a general dentist, aesthetic dentist or specialist, treatment with Botox and Fillers where applicable will get you far better results, as you do not confine yourself to just the gums and teeth but the whole face. Today as a preventative measure, Botox and Fillers are being used on younger patients instead of waiting for patients to be old. More patients in their 20s and 30s are opting for non-invasive procedures such as Botox to delay the signs of aging. Once you know the use of Botox and Fillers and fully trained to do so, you will view your patients from a different perspective. You’ll be more than surprised that what you learn at the workshop could enhance your knowledge of the face, its possible treatment with Botox and it will give you a true and correct perspective of dental aesthetics. Today, most presenters of aesthetic dentistry only show their exceptionally good work on teeth and gums while neglecting the face. Without treating the face, the aesthetic work is incomplete unless the patient on their own see an aesthetic doctor, plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Without treating the face, your good work in the mouth will appear incongruous. It can be compared to a nice building in a rundown neighbourhood. The use of Botox and Fillers have previously been confined to aesthetic doctors, plastic surgeons, dermatologists etc and they would frown on your use of aesthetic treatment from taking off frowns to improving other aesthetic aspects of the face. But that should not deter you. 2 Remember, as dentists, your training of facial anatomy is far greater at most universities world wide than our medical colleagues. You have a better perspective and understanding of the facial region and you, possibly with proper training, could offer better choices of facial aesthetic to your patients. You should not fear using it with proper training and you should encourage proper legislation in your country. It is a big thing today amongst dentists in USA, UK, Europe and Australia. In Singapore courses on Botox and Fillers are attracting dentists who want certification and courses are being run at very high prices presently as the demand far exceed possible places in these courses. ICCDE will take this course internationally and in the Asia-Pacific region by presenting 2 foremost clinicians on Botox treatment at the ICCDE Oration which is a full day workshop. Presently the course has been fixed on 16 June 2014 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. If there is a high demand we’ll have another full day session during the Congress. To register for the course and workshop, you have to be a registered delegate of the 36th Asia Pacific Dental Congress and you have to attend both lecture and workshop together. Lecture US$ 200.00 Workshop US$ 600.00. It will be on a first come first served registration exercise and you should book your participation early to ensure a place as it is a limited attendance course. Enter the exciting aspect of Botox treatment. You will receive a special ICCDE certificate which possibly will be your first step to dento facial aesthetic. We will be focussing on Botox this time and possibly at the next Congress will carry this forward to include Fillers ! Dr Oliver Hennedige Executive Director ICCDE Secretary General APDF/APRO 3
