THE COPYRIGHT LICENSING AGENCY LTD Job Title: Product Development Executive Department: Development Reports to: Head of Development Last updated: July 2015 JOB PURPOSE To support the Head of Development in researching and developing new strategic business opportunities in the digital environment, which satisfy customer needs, and add significant value to the services provided by CLA to rightsholders and users. This will be an essential co-ordinating role with strong emphasis on process management requiring a clear understanding of copyright in general and collective licensing in particular and liaison with rightsholders, users and publishers. Evidence of a high level and quality of activity in the form of activity plans, reports, recommendations, etc. Strategic Planning Contribute to the CLA business plan in the area of market-led licence development and digital licensing. Identify and develop new business opportunities for licensing in the digital environment Assist with strategic level business opportunity identification, proposal, and development process Liaison with RRO UK Colleagues as part of research and consultation process Assist with consultation with users/user representative bodies, with rightsholders / rightsholder bodies. Working with PLS, ALCS and DACS to ensure productive relationships are developed and maintained with users and rightsholders. Suitable business opportunities are identified and developed Successful and timely completion of analysis and design Gap analysis. Support Head of Development in negotiations on price for new licences Working closely with other CLA staff and managers. Contribute to market research into users/user needs by Sales and Marketing Department As directed by the Head of Development. CLA Version 1.0/HRD/28-04-2014/Document1 2 of 4 Project Sponsor. Act as Project Sponsor for systems development as required. Working with IT department as necessary to develop approved systems enhancements justified within project plans. Monitor and report back on project progress though Trial phase. Act as sponsor when launched with responsibility for further development, briefing Business Development team, etc. Ensure all aspects (Legal, BD, User Guidelines etc) are in place for launch Viable projects are taken through the agreed Licence Development process. Technology and systems requirements are understood and met. Project Trial success measures are agreed in advance, measures are taken and successes and failures are reported upon in a timely way Working in conjunction with CLA Business Development, Operations, IT, Education, Finance and Legal departments to develop business and marketing plans. Colleagues are informed and motivated. The licence is developed and updated after launch. As directed by the Head of Development. CLA’s licence development process is followed in a timely fashion. Manage and drive the process Prepare and complete all necessary proposal documentation, schedules, etc and ensure that they are appropriately understood and signed off. Ensure efficient and effective communication with, and as necessary, between rightsholders and users, through appropriate channels. All interested parties are consulted with and involved in a timely manner. Deadlines are agreed and owned by all interested parties. Organisation of consultation meetings and events. Responsibility for ownership of consultations, timetables, reporting dates, etc., where delegated Communication and, where relevant, collaboration with ALCS, PLS and DACS occurs throughout Ensure appropriate agreed reports are prepared and circulated, feedback integrated, etc. Establish and maintain documents for procedures CLA Version 1.0/HRD/28-04-2014/Document1 3 of 4 Co-ordinate and keep track of product development activities in conjunction with the Head of Development. Produce progress report for line on a regular basis (at least every month as a minimum). Timely and accurate reports produced. In collaboration with Legal ensure all related licence documentation (licence itself, User Guidelines etc) is completed and agreed with Legal for licence launch PERSON SPECIFICATION Experience Practical understanding of copyright issues Desirable: Experience in project commissioning/product development in publishing or similar market-driven services environment, or in software industries. Skills & Competencies Ability to think and perform at a high level both intellectually and commercially in a complex environment with a broad range of stakeholders. Ability to develop market-led business plans based on clear project definitions, supported with objective evidence and quantitative analysis enabling fully informed decisions to be taken.
