PURDUE UNIVERSITY Department of Chemistry Second Year Research Report In accordance with departmental rules, second year students are required to submit a report documenting their research accomplishments at the end of their fourth semester of study. Your major professor must complete the evaluation form that is included in this document with you. FOUR copies of your completed evaluation form (including the original) should be attached to the FRONT of four copies of your report and must be submitted to the departmental office (BRWN 2100) by 5pm the Friday before final exam week. The Graduate Office will circulate the second year report to each of the remaining committee members for their individual evaluations and signatures. The second year report should be typed, and should detail your thesis project with emphasis on your research accomplishments to date. The report should include a section on your future research plans. The document should be in the format of a research paper with an appropriate listing of citations. Please note that you will be required to schedule an oral preliminary examination. Students must complete this exam by November 15 of their fifth semester. The oral exam must be scheduled with the graduate school. It is your responsibility to schedule the exam with your committee. You should work with the receptionist in BRWN 2100 at least three weeks before the exam to complete the required paperwork and schedule a room. The written part of your original proposal and any update you may have to your research report must be submitted to the graduate office at least two weeks prior to your oral exam.
