Descriptive Information for New Part-Time Position and Program Providers
Geography for the part-time School Tennis Organizer (approximately 15-20 hours/week) was
considered with the potential of growth, access to public facilities, and area schools, and
potential for hiring the position efficiently. Our first preference is for the Aiken/Greenwood area.
Aiken has a population of approximately 165,000 and Greenwood 70,000. The school tennis
organizer (STO) will target PE Teachers, after school providers, high school coaches,
volunteers and parents, parks and recreation departments, churches, and the like.
To recruit the STO: we will advertise on our webpage, Facebook page, Twitter, E-blasts, and
post with CTA’s, direct referrals from volunteers, and local colleges/universities with Education
and Physical Education majors. With the help of local tennis leaders, we intend to reach out for
individuals who are already a part of a CTA, local league, school, and/or volunteering in another
capacity.
Once an STO is in place, an assessment starting in March 2015 and again every eight weeks
throughout the year in an effort to study what is considered “best practices” (to see if the current
strategies are working and yielding desired results) to increase PE participation, KTC
registrations, scheduled Play Days, No-Cut Coach registration, and additional workshops. This
should ultimately increase JTT participation by the fall in 2015.
The STO will send surveys to KTC organizers with specific measurable criteria to use as data
for tracking growth and participation levels.
Training for STO





One-on-one training with the Junior Recreation Coordinator (JRC) and the Junior
Programs Manager (JPM) to cover weekly expectations
The STO will shadow the JRC to schools, recreation facilities, tennis clubs, etc.
The STO will be trained on what materials and handouts to use in the field and where to
find information on the website
In order for the STO to be comfortable, this independent contactor will be able to work
with JRC and JPM for at least 7 days combined. This will ensure their comfort in an
autonomous setting. A conference call with the JRC will be set weekly for the first month
and then as needed going forward.
With the STO exposed to real scenarios, he/she will be prepared and trained to grow the
youth programs and JTT
