PLEASE COMPLETE AND TURN IN NO LATER THEN FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 24TH TO GET IT ON YOUR TRANSCRIPT FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS. The final activities for your career education credit will be tracked on-line through the C.I.S program . The one exception is in Step 9 you will submit your essay to the Counseling and Career Center in addition to saving it to your portfolio. Please make sure you follow all instructions closely and complete your required junior activities to earn your .125 career education credit for junior year. Log In. 1. Open up Firefox if on a Westview Computer. 2. Go to CIS (Career Information System) http://oregoncis.uoregon.edu 3. Sign in to CIS using your personal username and password, here’s how to figure it out: Username: Grad Year (2 digits)-‐ First two letters of your first name -‐ First two letters of last name -‐ Birth Month (2 digits) -‐ Birthdate (2 digits) Example: 14keku0329 Password: Student ID # Instructions are available in the career center if you are having trouble with your log in. Click on Junior Year Once you’ve clicked on junior year you will need to complete activities listed in Step. 1-8. Each specific step has activities or reflections that are utilized to support your exploration in discovering steps for your post high school plan. Follow the instructions on the back page to help you navigate through each step. If you have received an “I” for career education during 9th or 10th grade this means you are missing required activities. Please see the counseling and career center if you need help finding what activities you still need to complete. StEPP activities required to complete for Junior Career Ed. Review and select two occupations you saved from the occupation sort. For each occupation describe why it may be a good career for you. 2. Click on the two occupations to explore more details on the occupations and share what type of post high school training is required to access this occupation. ☐ Complete Preparation requirements for my goals. 1. Describe some helpful high school courses that will prepare you for your post high school goals. 2. Describe what steps you will take as you complete high school to reach these requirements. The drop down menu will allow you click on the school sort. ☐ Update your level of education checklist. ☐ Complete the Financial Aid Sort and save your results. ☐ Update your course planner and add your courses for junior year. ☐ Set your school year goals. Make 2-3 goals related to steps required towards your post high school plans. ☐ Describe the steps you will take. o Review your saved results from the school sort and list 2-3 schools you are considering to apply to and review their admission criteria. Reflect on what steps you can start now to prepare for to apply during your senior year. ☐ Update your Activities, Education and Work History Resume o This activity will allow you to have the information readily available when time to request recommendations and applying for scholarships. You can also upload the information directly from C.I.S. to the OSAC scholarship. ☐ Complete your state testing in reading, writing and math. ☐ Submit your scores once your results are known. Some scores may not be available until the start of senior year. Step 8-☐ Complete a CRLE Step 9: Your Essay will be submitted in two ways. Name__________ Student ID______Current Grade ___ 1. Please attach this cover sheet with your essay to the Counseling and Career center. 2. You must also attach the document to your C.I.S portfolio. Click on My Portfolio Click on Stored Filed and Links under the Saved & Favorites category Click Add File Click browse to find and attach your essay file. ☐ Reflection Questions (Essay Prompts) Instructions: Please choose from the following essay questions. You need to pick ONE option from this list. (Career Ed Goals addressed: Rigor, Relevance, Reflection). Option 1) Write a 1-2 page reflection essay on this topic: Please share with us your current post high school goal (college, trade school, military, work, etc.) and tell us how “PRIDE” (Personal Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, Daily Effort, and Embracing Community) will positively impact your ability to be successful in achieving your goals. Please be as specific as possible. Your first paragraph should describe in detail your plan and the steps you need to take to get there (this might include goals for your Senior year). The following support paragraphs should address the elements of PRIDE and how they will help you achieve those goals. Or Option 2) From these 6 prompts, choose and respond to 3 of the questions. Please limit each response to about 100 words. (Hint: These prompts come directly from the Oregon State University application, so if you’re planning on applying to OSU, this might be a great choice for you!) 1. Leadership/Group contributions: Describe examples of your leadership experience in which you have significantly influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time. Consider responsibilities to initiatives taken in or out of school. 2. Knowledge in a field/creativity: Describe any of your special interests and how you have developed knowledge in these areas. Give examples of your creativity: the ability to see alternatives; take diverse perspectives; come up with many, varied, or original ideas; or willingness to try new things. 3. Dealing with adversity: Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to address this challenge. Include whether you turned to anyone in facing that challenge, the role that person played, and what you learned about yourself. 4. Community service: Explain what you have done to make your community a better place to live. Give examples of specific projects in which you have been involved over time. 5. Handling systemic challenges: Describe your experience facing or witnessing discrimination. Tell us how you responded and what you learned from those experiences and how they have prepared you to contribute to your school community. 6. Goals/task commitment: Articulate the goals you have established for yourself and your efforts to accomplish these. Give at least one specific example that demonstrates your work ethic/diligence. Option 3) Submit your Common Application or your college application Essay with your Junior Career Ed Packet.
