Outreach/Project Experience Master’s Thesis This study was conducted to analyze general socio-demographics and HIV knowledge of the African-American population, as they represent the largest percent of HIV/AIDS cases in Houston, and to determine commonalities and inconsistencies that can be applicable to the benefit of the population. The purpose of the study was not to reiterate the inflated prevalence of the disease within the population, but to identify common factors and gaps in knowledge within the randomly sampled population and acknowledge the need to address such factors as potential opportunities for public health interventions. These are factors that weigh on the probability of a positive diagnosis and affect U.S. minority populations at risk.
