Commissioning and funding innovative research, while providing support and information for patients, carers and healthcare professionals Queen Anne House • Gonville Place • Cambridge CB1 1ND 01223 324359 • www.melanomafocus.com • 07867 808889 Mucosal Melanoma Guidelines – Invitation for Expressions of Interest Melanoma Focus has begun preparatory work to set up a Guideline Development Group (GDG) to develop guidelines for mucosal melanoma. The first guideline will address anouro-genital melanoma; subsequently a guideline on sino-nasal melanoma will be developed. Given the disease’s rarity, no randomised controlled trials have been identified for mucosal melanoma, but there is a large body of information relating treatments to outcomes. The challenge is to identify the relevance of the published data to current clinical practice and produce agreed recommendations to guide healthcare professionals. The GDG will be led by Dr Jerry Marsden, with project management and methodological support and funding by Melanoma Focus. It will comprise approximately 12 members from appropriate specialisations and interests: Gynaecological surgical oncologist Urological surgical oncologist Colorectal surgical oncologist Medical oncologist with an interest in melanoma (and, if possible, in gynaecological, urological or colorectal oncology) Clinical oncologist with an interest in gynaecological oncology, urological oncology or colorectal oncology Surgeon with a major interest in melanoma Pathologist with expertise in melanoma and gynaecological, urological or colorectal oncology Radiologist with expertise in melanoma and gynaecological, urological or colorectal oncology Specialist nurse with expertise in managing patients with gynaecological, urological or colorectal oncology Patient advocates/representatives Trustees: Dr Paul Lorigan (Chairman) • Dr Katharine Acland • Mrs Deborah Beirne Professor Martin Cook • Dr Pippa Corrie • Professor Richard Marais Dr Jerry Marsden • Dr Paul Nathan • Mr Howard Peach • Professor Barry Powell The Melanoma Research Foundation Limited operating as Melanoma Focus • Registered Charity No. 1124716 We expect the process to take 18 to 24 months, involving 9 to 12 one-day meetings in all, which will be held in London. No fees will be paid but travel expenses may be claimed. We hope to call the first meeting of the GDG during Q1 2016. This initiative follows the charity’s support for a group that successfully developed guidelines for uveal melanoma, receiving NICE accreditation in January 2015 (see http://melanomafocus.com/activities-2/um-guidelines-project/ for further information). An application will be made for the mucosal melanoma guidelines also to be granted NICE accreditation; this means we must ensure compliance with NICE GDG requirements from the outset. We now invite expressions of interest in being involved in the first guideline (ano-urogenital melanoma) from those with requisite experience. It should be noted that GDG members will be expected to give this work the highest priority and attend all the group’s meetings; only those who are able to make this commitment should apply. If you are interested in being considered as a member of the GDG please email Simon Rodwell, CEO, Melanoma Focus at rodwell@melanomafocus.com in the first instance. We will send you an application form to record your professional details and the reasons for your interest. Please contact Jerry Marsden (jerry.marsden@btinternet.com) or Simon Rodwell if you have any queries. _____________ Trustees: Dr Paul Lorigan (Chairman) • Dr Katharine Acland • Mrs Deborah Beirne Professor Martin Cook • Dr Pippa Corrie • Professor Richard Marais Dr Jerry Marsden • Dr Paul Nathan • Mr Howard Peach • Professor Barry Powell The Melanoma Research Foundation Limited operating as Melanoma Focus • Registered Charity No. 1124716
