Extensive assignments, large lab projects, extensive quizzes, exams and similar type projects: Normal return time to students in one (1) to two (2) weeks. AUTHORIZED TOOLS Students may use any/all course materials, including books and notes, while completing homework, quizzes, and online exams. Collaboration is acceptable on homework assignments. All quizzes and exams are to be completed independently; no collaboration with classmates is permitted and any instance of such will be considered academic dishonesty. Students may use a calculator and one 3 inch by 5 inch notecard on proctored exams. LATE WORK Late work is generally not accepted. If you feel like you have extenuating circumstances, please discuss those with the instructor prior to the assignment due date. DISCUSSIONS: There will be three required discussion threads this semester. The first two are part of the introductory activities for this course. The third discussion will be posted after exam 2. Please follow the instructions carefully when posting in the discussion threads. One of the required discussions will require students to ask the instructor a question. The instructor will respond on Updated: August 2015 Page 3 of 9 the discussion thread. There will also be discussion threads that allow students to ask other students or the instructor for help with course questions. HOMEWORK The homework assignments can be found in the Homework section on MyMathLab. Homework due dates are listed in the syllabus, in the Content area on D2L, and on MyMathLab. Homework assignments are automatically graded by MyMathLab. Homework assignments with a grade of 70% or higher will receive full credit. If you have a question about a homework problem, use the Ask My Instructor option in MyMathLab. That feature will send your exact homework question to me. You can also call or come by my office during the office hours listed. QUIZZES The quizzes are located in the Quizzes & Tests area on MyMathLab. Each quiz may be taken an unlimited number of times. I recommend you take each quiz multiple times. The quizzes do not have as many help resources available as homework, so they are a good opportunity to make sure you are prepared for the exams. Quizzes are also a large portion of your grade, so it is important to score well on the quizzes. Take advantage of their availability and take the quizzes as many times as necessary to improve your grade. TESTING There are two types of exams in this course, online exams and proctored exams. There will be three online exams. The online exams can be taken anywhere you choose. You will have access to these exams just like the homework assignments and the quizzes. The only difference is that you will be required to use the Pearson lockdown browser. Please do not wait until the last minute to take the exams. Technical difficulties and time constraints can create a lot of unnecessary stress. Please send me an email as soon as possible if you are going to have a problem submitting the exam by the due date. The due dates are listed in the syllabus, on D2L, and on MyMathLab. There will be two proctored exams. The proctored exams require you to find a suitable person to monitor you while taking the exam. Information explaining acceptable proctors is available in the General Course Content area of D2L. There are two forms that you and your proctor must complete prior to your proctor being approved. You need to find a suitable proctor and get approval early in the semester so that everything is prepared when it is time to take the proctored exams. You also need to communicate clearly and often with your proctor to make sure you both understand the scheduling arrangements necessary. You will be allowed to use your calculator and a 3 inch by 5 inch notecard on the proctored exams. Please email me any questions you have regarding a proctor. Do not post questions about specific proctors in D2L. The proctored exams are clearly labeled on the syllabus, in D2L, and in MyMathLab. You will know which exams are proctored and when they are scheduled from the very beginning of the semester. Please make arrangements early so that proctor scheduling does not become a hindrance to you completing this course. Any student who misses 10% of an individual course (or earlier at faculty discretion) during a regular fifteen-week semester, or the equivalent portion of time in a shorter session, will have their name submitted by that course instructor to the OSUIT Early Alert System for retention intervention. B. At the point the Early Alert is issued, the student must meet with their assigned faculty advisor or designated faculty/staff member within seven (7) academic calendar days for counseling on how to improve their attendance and academic success. Excessive Absences: A. The University reserves the right to administratively withdraw any student from an individual course who misses 20% of that course, whether excused or unexcused, and, in the opinion of the instructor, the student does not have a reasonable opportunity to be successful in the course. B. Students should be aware any of the following may impact their financial aid: 1. being administratively withdrawn from a course 2. dropping a course 3. their last date of attendance in a course Please see OSUIT Policy 2-021 for full details and procedures.
