News from Mrs. Skipp’s Classroom Dear Parents and Students, I hope everyone enjoyed their winter break. I missed my students and can’t wait to get back to our routine again! Outlined below are a couple of reminders. Indoor shoes As the snow and cold flies, please make sure your child has an extra pair of shoes for inside the classroom. Because students work on the floor with material, I ask students to leave their boots or other wet shoes out of the classroom. Also, students have PE on Mondays; please make sure they have gym shoes in order to participate. MAP Testing Students will begin winter MAP testing in January. They will be tested in math and reading. A little extra sleep this month can go a long way for students. The Map math test is January 27th at 9:30. The Map reading test is February 2nd at 9:30. Homework Students will continue to have spelling homework and book reports. Spelling homework goes home on Friday and is due the following Friday. January’s book report is historical fiction. Students may choose among News from Mrs. Skipp’s Classroom the following ways to present. 1) Make a diorama (a box with a 3-D scene from the book) or 2) Illustrate the major happenings of the book in sequence. You may present this as a large, colored cartoon strip or a large, colored, timeline. Use sentences to describe events. You must include at least 8 events. If your child has another idea of how they want to present their book, please have them talk to me.
