FAMILY FUN THIS EASTER: YORKSHIRE’S MAGNIFICENT ATTRACTIONS OFFERS A
HOST OF EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES FOR ALL THE FAMILY TO ENJOY
Spend this Easter with Yorkshire’s Magnificent Attractions and experience what
Yorkshire can offer.
All events run between 1 April – 27 April 2014
Yorkshire's Magnificent Attractions – a collection of some of the best-loved attractions in
the UK – announces details of events taking place across Yorkshire this coming Easter.
Among a whole host of individual events, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, winner of Yorkshire’s
Most Magnificent Attraction opens its new exhibition by highly acclaimed American artist
Ursula von Rydingsvard on 5 April. The first large-scale survey in Europe the exhibition,
which is the artists’ most extensive yet, illustrates the full scope of von Rydingsvard diverse
practice, including more than 40 works of drawing and sculpture made over the last two
decades.
Some of the fantastic events taking place at Yorkshire’s other Magnificent Attractions
include: Lambing Live, at Cannon Hall Farm, Barnsley; Magic Shows and Jousting
Tournaments at the Royal Armouries, Leeds; Felt Making and Printmaking workshops at
The Hepworth Wakefield; Follow the Yellow Brick Road at Eureka! The National Children’s
Museum, Halifax; The Lord Mayor's Easter Egg Hunt at Jorvik Viking Centre, York; the
reopening of Flamingo Land Theme Park, Malton and; an Easter Egg Quiz Trail among
the lions, tigers and meerkats at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

The Yorkshire’s Magnificent Attractions group was founded 16 years ago, and currently
includes 16 attractions in Yorkshire. The attractions work closely together on combined
event and marketing activity, welcoming over 8 million visitors to Yorkshire each year.

Editor’s Notes
Easter Events at Newby Hall & Gardens, Ripon, 1 – 21 April
Newby Hall are hosting a Giant Easter Egg Trail on Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday, 12pm
– 4pm. Young visitors to the Hall will be following clever clues through the woodland walk
this Easter on a giant egg trail, organised by the Easter bunny. The clues will lead to the
Easter Bunny’s house and a prize egg for everyone.
On Easter Sunday and Monday, Newby will also welcome performers from the Harrogate
International Youth Festival.
Lambing Live and Easter Events at Cannon Hall Farm, Barnsley, 11 – 27 April
Lambing Live is one of the farm’s most popular events of the year. This year they are
running the event on the evening of Friday 11 April. Come along and enjoy the magic of the
farmyard at night and hopefully witness live births at peak lambing time.
Following on from Lambing Live, the farm are also hosting an Easter trail, with the prize of a
chocolate treat and Easter craft activities. Also included in the entrance price are milking
demonstrations, animal feeding and small animal petting. There will be sheep racing, ferret
racing and their friends from SMJ Falconry will be on site with their Birds of Prey.
Easter at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield, 5 – 27 April
There’s so much to offer all the family at Yorkshire Sculpture Park this Easter from the new
Ursula von Rydingsvard exhibition to the Art of Chocolate Making workshop. Why not take
part in the self-guided trail around the park lakes and woodlands to become a young
explorer, discovering the historical stories and wildlife that surround them.
The Lord Mayor's Easter Egg Hunt, York, 19 April
Between 10am - 1pm collect your treasure sheet from Jorvik, £1.50 per child (includes
admission to the Mansion House and Micklegate Bar Museum).
Set out from Jorvik on a city-wide quest for chocolate. Solve the puzzles to visit six locations
around York, with a treat at each stop!
Xscape Yorkshire's Ultimate Easter Destination, Castleford, 1 - 27 April
Xscape Yorkshire has it all this Easter, Volcano Falls: set on a mysterious island amid dense
jungle with a ferocious T-Rex, there are two challenging courses of 18 holes waiting to be
defeated. SkyRide: suspended high about the rock climbing towers and 15m above the main
entrance, have a go and enjoy a breathtaking view and an exhilarating journey around the
obstacles hanging from the centres ceiling.
Family Fun This Easter at the Hepworth, Wakefield, 12 – 27 April
The Hepworth makes a gallery trip fun for all the family and there’s free award-winning family
fun every day during the Easter holidays.





Beat It, Bend It, Build It – Make small metal sculptures inspired by Barbara
Hepworth’s sculptures, Winged Figure, Construction and Sphere.
Printmaking – Experiment with printmaking techniques to create your very own prints
inspired by the work of Barbara Hepworth.
Artigami – Discover the art of paper folding to create structures inspired by the holes
and strings in Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures.
Felt Making – Create colourful felted fabrics using merino wool inspired by Barbara
Hepworths brightly coloured prints.
Snapshot Stories – Let your imagination run and create stories about the
photographers on display by American photographer Philip-Lorca diCorcia.
Easter at The Royal Armouries, Leeds, 5 - 21 April
There's plenty of free history fun to be had at the Royal Armouries Museum this Easter as
you discover Myths and Magic. There will be a free magic shows, then knights will be
battling it out in a Jousting tournament. Falconry demonstrations will be running throughout
Easter giving interested visitors a chance to see magnificent birds of prey bringing history to
life in thrilling demonstrations of this ancient sport.
Easter Family Activities at the Thackray Medical Museum, Leeds, 5 – 27 April
Drop in during the Easter holidays and take part in the museum’s themed family activities.
April is ‘If Teeth could Talk’ month. How many teeth do we have and why do we need to both
to brush them? How well did you clean your teeth this morning? Find out by using disclosing
tablets to check just how well you did and make a plaster case of your own teeth to take
away with you.
All aboard the Steam Train this Easter at North York Moors Railway, 1 – 27 April
Take a step back in time and visit the North York Moors Railway. Marvel at the magnificent
steam engines and beautiful rural stations. It’s a great day out for all the family this Easter.
Canary Themed Activities and Music at the National Coal Mining Museum for England,
Wakefield, 1 – 27 April
There’s FREE activities going on every day, offering the kids fund and adventure at the
Museum this Easter. Join in our musical/rhythm workshops and sand art workshops; you can
even learn how to make pom-pom canaries in cages and take home hand-made
thaumatropes as an Easter gift for the family.
A Chocolate Spectacular Easter at York’s CHOCOLATE Story, York, 5 – 27 April
There’s always something new going on at York’s CHOCOLATE Story and this Easter it’s
Chocolate Spectacular! Watch York’s CHOCOLATE Story’s team of chocolatiers create
Easter eggs and join in on their Easter egg hunt and more.
Easter at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Doncaster, 1 – 27 April
Visit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where you can encounter a beautiful pride of lions, visit the
Land of the Tiger, meet meerkats, flamingos and anteaters amongst many others. Why not
take part in the Easter Egg Quiz Trail and be in with a chance to win a prize!
Lightwater Valley Theme Park 2012, Ripon, 5 April onwards
On the 5 April Lightwater Valley will be opening its doors for the 2014 season. Escape to
Lightwater Valley this Easter for fun-filled day bursting with thrills, chills and adventure. All
your favourite rides and attractions will be open offering mini, mega and ultimate adventures
for the whole family, whatever the weather!
Nature’s Stage at Eureka! Halifax, 5 – 27 April
Step into nature, conservation and the wonderful world of animals at Eureka! Go on a bear
hunt, see what happens when the Spring Fairy brings sleepy nature back to life and take a
walk in the Eureka! Jungle. Includes story-telling and animal handling on certain days.
Easter Zoo Trail at Flamingo Land Resort, Ripon, 5 – 21 April
Flamingo Land opens its doors for the 2014 season on 29 March. Across every day during
the Easter Holidays, guests can join in the Easter Zoo Trail where you can complete an eggthemed sheet by walking around their award-winning animal collection and matching up
clues.
Gentoo Penguins at The Deep, Hull, 5 – 27 April
Meet The Deep’s newest residents in the Kingdom of Ice, a colony of Gentoo penguins in
the only display in the North of England. Watch as these playful penguins chase bubbles and
frolic under the magical snow machine, as well as learning about their habitat and issues
surrounding climate change and ocean acidification.
You can also enjoy some ‘egg-citing’ Easter activities including decorating your own badge
or having your face painted. Don’t forget to follow the penguin trail to win a cuddly prize.
