Pennsylvania Campus Compact (PACC) AmeriCorps Community Fellows Service Position Description 2013-2014 Member Position Description Member Position Summary: Essential Functions of a Position: Additional Information and Requirements for all PACC AmeriCorps Community Fellows Members Community Fellows The purpose of the AmeriCorps Community Fellows program is to address compelling community Program Model: needs in the areas of K-12 academic achievement and post-secondary college success, while developing college students as active citizens. Activities may include, but are not limited to: • Providing academic support to K-12 at-risk students with activities including but not limited to: volunteering in structured tutoring programs and after-school programs; developing and providing curriculum-supported academic enrichment activities; serving as a college-positive mentor and role model; and aiding K-12 teachers in classroom support • Volunteering in a college access program with activities including but not limited to: providing workshops for at-risk students in: career awareness, study skills, or college admissions process, exposing at-risk students to the college environment via campus tours, sitting in on classes, or meeting with faculty, serving in a public high school guidance department, providing one-on-one counseling on the financial aid process and/or college application process, or providing any of these supports to veterans seeking to attend college • Supporting at-risk college students through peer mentoring and tutoring programs to support college retention with activities including, but not limited to: peer academic tutoring and mentoring, supporting first-generation college students, serving in an academic support center or program (Writing Center, Math Center, Upward Bound, Trio Programs, etc.), supporting students with learning disabilities • Coordinating and supporting volunteers who serve in any of these areas including but not limited to: supporting a service-learning course that focuses on any of these areas, creating manuals to support volunteer best practices, expectations, and program specifics, serving as a liaison between community and students in placing students in volunteer positions, recruiting, mobilizing, and training additional students to support existing programs As collective group, 2013-2014 AmeriCorps Community Fellows service align with the following performance measures: K-12 Academic Achievement: 1,250 youth mentoring matches will be sustained (ED4A) 250 youth will demonstrate increased academic achievement (ED27) Post Secondary Success: 200 students who successfully completed K-12 programs will participate in the program (ED2) 20 of these students will earn a post-secondary degree (ED11) Member Eligibility and Qualifications: To serve as an AmeriCorps PACC Community Fellow, members must: • be a United States Citizen, a national of the United States, or a lawful permanent resident alien of the United States, • be at least 17 years of age Pennsylvania Campus Compact (PACC) AmeriCorps Community Fellows Service Position Description 2013-2014 • AmeriCorps Terms and Conditions: Service Outside of Focus Area & Training Accompaniment: obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent, before completing the program, or before utilizing an education award • be enrolled in a college or university at time of enrollment • maintain regular and timely communication with his/her site supervisor, community partner and PACC • correctly complete all necessary paperwork, background checks, and timesheets correctly and within established deadlines. While serving as an AmeriCorps PACC Community Fellow, members must: follow all terms and conditions as outlined in the member contract, including the 2013 AmeriCorps prohibited activities assure that any new volunteers who are leveraged and/or recruited will follow AmeriCorps terms and conditions as outlined in the member contract, including the 2013 AmeriCorps prohibited activities identify as an AmeriCorps member and wear the AmeriCorps button provided by PACC while serving Other Service: While serving an AmeriCorps PACC Community Fellow, a member may log up to 20% of their hours (60 hour for 300 -hour position and 90 hours for 450 -hour positions) outside of their position description. These other opportunity may include national service related to MLK Day of Service or AmeriCorps week. Other service opportunities may be approved by the discretion of the host site supervisor and PACC, but must fall within AmeriCorps terms and conditions and may not include prohibited activities. All "other service" must be logged and described by the member and approved by the host site supervisor. Training: While serving an AmeriCorps PACC Community Fellow, a member may log up to 20% of their hours (60 hour for 300 -hour position and 90 hours for 450 -hour positions) as training hours. Trainings may be provided by host sites, campus partners, or PACC, and will seek to equip the Fellow with skills, knowledge, and values for life-long service and active citizenship. All trainings will follow AmeriCorps terms and conditions and will not include prohibited activities. To serve vulnerable populations as PACC AmeriCorps Community Fellow, members recognize all required background checks must be initiated before the term of service and PACC must have the results of the National Sex Offender Public Registry Search and PA State Background check. While the FBI check is pending, members must be accompanied (supervised) by a community partner at all times.
