Dent, the first African-American Fellow of ACHE. This financial aid program is offered to help ACHE Student Associates finance their education. Scholarship Details Offered annually, the Albert W. Dent Graduate Student Scholarship is designated for minority students enrolled in their final year of a healthcare management graduate program. Each Scholarship is worth $5,000. Between the Dent and the McGaw scholarships, ACHE awards up to 20 scholarships each year. In providing this scholarship, ACHE’s goal is to provide financial aid to minority students in healthcare management graduate programs to help offset tuition costs, student loans and expenses. Eligibility Requirements You may apply for an Albert W. Covert, PhD, LFHIMSS Scholarship for Management Systems Central and Northern Florida HIMSS Chapter Scholarship Sponsored by the Central and Northern Florida Chapter of HIMSS The Central and Northern Florida Chapter is pleased to announce a new scholarship for a student in the healthcare information and management systems field. Established and funded by the Central and Northern Florida HIMSS Chapter, this scholarship is awarded to a HIMSS student member who exhibits academic excellence and future leadership potential in the healthcare information and management systems industry. Student member of the Central and Northern Florida Chapter are all encouraged to apply for the scholarship. The amount of the scholarship is $5,000 and is given annually. In addition, the winner will also receive an all-expense paid trip to the Annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition. (Some restrictions may apply.) Criteria: Applicants for the Central and Northern Florida HIMSS Chapter Scholarship must fulfill these minimum requirements: The applicant must be a member in good standing of National HIMSS and the Central and Northern Florida Chapter and will serve on a committee during the term of the scholarship. The primary occupation of the applicant at the time the scholarship is awarded must be that of student in an accredited undergraduate, Masters or PhD program related to the healthcare information management systems field. The specific degree program is not a critical factor, although it is expected that programs similar to those in industrial engineering, operations research, healthcare informatics, computer science and information systems, mathematics, and quantitative programs in business administration and hospital administration will predominate. Undergraduate applicants must be at least a first-term junior when the scholarship is awarded. Previous Foundation Scholarship winners are ineligible. Wesbury, Jr. Postgraduate Fellowship A program to complement graduate studies in healthcare or association management Since its founding in 1933, the American College of Healthcare Executives has worked toward its goal of improving the health status of society by advancing healthcare leadership and management excellence. The Stuart A. Wesbury, Jr. Postgraduate Fellowship was established in 1991 to further postgraduate education in healthcare and professional society management. The fellowship was named in honor of Stuart A. Wesbury, Jr., PhD, FACHE, ACHE president from 1979 to 1991. Fellowship Purpose ACHE’s fellowship program has four primary purposes: To provide in-depth exposure to a broad range of association management issues and one-onone interaction with senior-level executives. To allow the fellow to assume responsibility for selected administrative tasks. To develop the fellow’s decision-making and problem-solving skills as they relate to complex organizational activities. To provide the fellow with an opportunity to explore particular issues of importance to ACHE and its affiliates. Fellowship Program The one-year fellowship program will provide an opportunity for the fellow to work in all major ACHE divisions, including Communications and Marketing, Professional Development, Executive Office, Finance and Administration, Health Administration Press, Management Information Systems, Regional Services and Member Services. The fellowship program’s content will be developed around the fellow’s special interests as well as in response to organizational needs. He was also part of the leadership team of the HCA Pacific Group, an assistant vice president with HCA Corporate in Nashville, a commissioned ROTC officer, and served in the U.S. Army Reserve. The Corris Boyd Scholars Program will provide two $40,000 scholarships to deserving minority students entering Master's Degree programs at AUPHA full member, CAHME accredited programs. The Foster G. McGaw Scholarship The Foster G. McGaw Scholarship provides financial support to undergraduate and graduate students in health administration. Scholarship funds are awarded each year to all AUPHA full graduate programs. The faculty within these programs disperse these monies at their discretion to students most deserving of recognition. More than 900 scholarships have been awarded since the program was established in 1975. The scholarship was endowed by Foster G. McGaw, founder of the American Hospital Supply Corporation. McGaw Funds are made available only to AUPHA Full Member Programs. Bugbee Falk Book Award In recognition of the lifetime accomplishments of George Bugbee and Isidore S. Falk, M.D., AUPHA annually bestows the Bugbee Falk Book Award to a group of outstanding students in our member programs. The book award is an innovative way to support tomorrow’s leaders by providing them with works by respected authors in the field. The books are intended to launch the student’s professional library. Eligibility: Students at programs that are members of AUPHA are eligible to receive this award. AUPHA selects several programs each year to receive the award. Winston Health Policy Scholarship The objective of the David A. Winston Health Policy Scholarship Program is to increase the number and quality of individuals trained in healthcare policy at the state and federal level by awarding deserving health policy students financial support to further their education. This scholarship recognizes student excellence and achievement based upon the student’s record and recommendations from faculty and colleagues. Ten $5,000 scholarships will be offered to students who demonstrate their potential to succeed in health policy at the state or federal level upon graduation from their master’s health administration degree program.
