ITINERARY
SATURDAY JUNE 13
Arrival at NICE airport – Arrival no later than 12 Noon. Two comfortable
vans will be waiting for you.
Arrive at the Mas Shabanou in early afternoon, get settled in rooms, relax,
explore the area, beverages and snack, group welcome dinner at Mas
Shabanou, discuss week’s plans for painting locations.
Welcome group dinner at Mas Shabanou (included in cost of trip).
SUNDAY, JUNE 14
Explore and paint on the grounds of Mas Shabanou and village of
Roquefort les Pins.
Mas Shabanou is a hotel/residence with a seawater swimming pool
situated in the quiet village of Roquefort les Pins, only 4 miles from the
Mediterranean, in the golden triangle between Nice, Cannes and Grasse.
Light lunch at Mas Shanabou (included in cost)
By van, we will go to Bar du Loup and paint the lavender fields and
waterfall.
Return in late afternoon to Mas Shabanou, take an evening stroll to the
village of Roquefort les Pins and have dinner in local café. (We will make
reservations)
Bar Sur Loup
MONDAY, JUNE 15
Valbonne – A lovely old village with a large anglophone population
retaining its 16th century character. Known for its beautiful central square,
the Place des Arcades, and charming streets. There are many intimate
and charming locations to paint in this village.
Lunch in the café in the main square.
After lunch, we will go to Mougins, a hilltop village with breathtaking
views of the surrounding countryside. We will paint there in the warm
afternoon light until sunset.
We will have dinner in one of the lovely cafés in Mougins and go back to
Mas Shabanou afterwards.
TUESDAY, JUNE 16
Vence – Called “The City of Art”, this bustling town has both the old and
the new. The old town, surrounded by walls has lovely squares, café
terraces, plane trees (platanes) and much more to inspire you to paint. It
is market day in the main square, which we will visit and set up to paint.
Lunch in a café in Vence.
After lunch, we will do another quick painting or study of old Vence
inside the old walls.
Later in the afternoon we will go to Saint Paul de Vence – a beautiful
fortified village perched on a narrow spur between two deep valleys.
Chagall was buried in the Saint Paul de Vence cemetery. Enjoy the late
afternoon light for sightseeing, or shopping.
Evening group meal in Saint Paul de Vence. (We will make reservations)
Van pickup in the evening.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17
Gourdon – Rated as one of the “most beautiful villages” in Provence,
Gourdon is an ancient village perched high on a rocky spur that has
spectacular views over the Gorges du Loup, the surrounding countryside
to the coast of the Mediterranean.
In the morning, we will paint below Gourdon looking up at the dramatic
view of the village perched on the mountainside.
Lunch at the local café in the village of Gourdon. We will paint in the
village for the rest of the day. There are spectacular views, old narrow
streets and stone buildings.
Back to Mas Shabanou in late afternoon.
Dinner on your own.
THURSDAY, JUNE 18
Free day –Nice
Morning departure for Nice. A day with no instruction.
Group is free to shop, explore, photograph, visit the Musé Matisse,
relax at a café and people watch, sketch, draw, photograph or stroll along
the sea on the Promenade des Anglais.
Group dinner at local restaurant – (Reservations will be made).
Van pick up in evening to go back to Mas Shabanou.
FRIDAY, JUNE 19
Grasse and Chateauneuf/Grasse
Grasse, the perfume capital of the world, has been a popular tourist town
for several centuries because of its high altitude and the fragrance of
flowers and clear air. We will paint in the old village with ancient
cathedrals, old squares and tiny streets.
After lunch in Grasse, we will go to Chateauneuf/Grasse, a perched
medieval village with buildings of light provencal colors.
We will paint here and be picked up by van in late afternoon back to Mas
Shabanou.
Dinner on your own.
SATURDAY, JUNE 20
Roquefort les Pins – Our last full day.
Leisurely day of painting, swimming, reading, writing postcards
at Mas Shabanou
Light lunch here (included in cost)
Final group critique with Joelle with wine and cheese.
Farewell dinner at Mas Shabanou – (included in cost of trip)
SUNDAY, JUNE 21
Early Departure for Nice airport by van and car– au revoir!
Please note: We will be traveling to all different painting locations in a van
with driver, Edwin, owner of Mas Shabanou and in another vehicle which
Michele or Joelle will be driving.
