RISK ASSESSMENT SHEET ACTIVITY FILMING A BULLYING SCENE IN THE COLLEGE CORRIDOR. HAZARDS CONTROLS COMMENTS Getting bruised or injured when acting the fight scene. Choreograph the fighting scene with the other actors. We will go through the step by step sequences time and time again so the actors know what to do, where to manhandle me so I don’t get injured. Hurting someone if they were to walk past. Wear a few layers so when getting shoved against a wall I have protection. I will put up signs that students are filming in this area so people know not to walk past or believe I really am getting bullied. Hurting someone with loose clothing. Make the actors take off their jewellery. They could pretend to punch me but their watches or bracelets but make contact. Also, the straps on the hoodies could poke me in the eye when filming the bullies at a low angle. Make sure the actors have taken off their jewellery if they are wearing any. Ask the actors to come in with a hoodie without straps or have them pull their hood so the straps raise higher. Tripping hazard. Bags will be placed at the far end of the corridor so when filming, nobody trips over anything. Make sure the floor is clear and belongings are behind the camera operator. RISK ASSESSMENT SHEET Filming scenes in the library where Dan finds an old spell book. Filming the transformation scene. Hurt someone with the books I throw. I will throw the books from the lowest shelf as possible. Be in an area where nobody else is around. I could hurt my foot if I throw the spell book on it. I will be using a big book. I will keep it in my bag when not in use and I will make sure I hold it tightly so it doesn’t fall out. An allergic reaction to face paint. Test out the face paint first. Cover a little bit of my face to see how my skin would react. Turns out I am actually allergic to face paint. The paint was irritating my cheek and a rash had formed. Now I decide to use hair chalk instead of face paint. An allergic reaction to hair chalk. Test the hair chalk a week before filming. Not allergic to hair chalk. Fire hazard. Make sure a bucket of water is always by my side and easy to get to if the candle knocks over and sets the table alight. Stick the bottom of the candle on the table using Blu-Tack. Blow the candle out when not in use. Food poisoning. Make sure hands are washed after handling raw pigs liver and the blood. I will buy pigs liver in Tesco and rather make fake blood I will use the blood from the pigs liver. Keep it in the fridge so it doesn’t go off. RISK ASSESSMENT SHEET Editing. Sharp objects. Cut through the pigs liver carefully and slowly. Only cut the surface, don’t try to go through the middle. Put the knife behind the camera so I don’t accidently slit something with it and also have a phone by side just in case there is an accident. I will be using a real kitchen knife to look as if I’m cutting my hand, when really I’ll be cutting the pigs liver. Put the knife in the sink and wash it just in case someone picks it up and uses it, thinking it’s clean when it’s actually been used to cut open pigs liver. Electrocution. Make sure food and drink are not close to computers. Buy a new laptop charger. A new laptop charger was bought at PC World. Eyestrain. You should always have the screen 24-26 inches away from your eyes to prevent this. Turn the brightness down. Take frequent breaks away from the screen. Loss of hearing. Have volume at a just right level. Could go deaf. RISK ASSESSMENT SHEET Backache and shoulder pains. Sit up straight, relax the arms and have everything close to you so you don’t arc over which strains your body. Use chairs which support the back and have the monitor at eye level. Tripping over. Bags need to be far under the table or by the classroom pegs. Coats need to be taken off and hung up on the pegs. Make sure shoelaces are tied or tucked into the shoe. We are editing in a classroom environment. We still also have to walk around the classroom. Walk sensibly. Infections. If cut by the keyboard or by the computer, always go to a medical person and report the incident and get it cleaned up. Wash hands after using the keyboard especially when going to lunch. The college could get sued if a cut leads to an infection if the incident wasn’t reported.
