1. What is MBAp?
The Migrant Business Acceleration program (MBAp). Is an energy fuelled, two day education and
business pitch program designed to support, link and accelerate the success of migrants creating or
developing new businesses, in the Sunshine Coast Region. The program provides mentors the
opportunity to help support, educate and connect with these migrants.
2. What is the purpose and benefits of the event?
The purpose of the event is to recognise “Diversity Intelligence”. The NCC has coined the phrase
“Diversity Intelligence” to describe those migrants and people with diverse, specialised skills sets who
offer an important social, cultural and economic resource for the Coast.
People with diversity intelligence bring with them from their homeland, training or experience unique
skills, experience, qualifications, international knowledge and connections and an automatic ‘global
view’ to business that is helping build business, social and cultural capital of the Sunshine Coast.
3. When is the event run?
The event is run over two days which will be Wednesday the 20th and Thursday the 21st of May at the
Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast.
4. Is this the event for me?
This event is designed to support and help migrants learn new business skills and make new business
and industry connections. If you are wanting to get involved with new business ideas and creating a
supportive business networks for migrants wanting to launch and evolve new business concepts then
this event is for you.
5. How do I apply to participate?
Expressions of interest to be a mentor are made through mbap@nambourcc.org. The call for mentors
is now on, simply download the expression of interest form, fill it out, scan and submit. The deadline
for submission of application forms is the 24th of April 2015.
6. Do I need to pay for anything?
No. We are grateful for sharing your expertise, experience and advice. The event is free for all mentors
to attend. Lunch is supplied if you chose to stay on the second day.

7. What should I bring?
Main necessities for the event are a want to help support, educate and connect. You will also need
the following:



A laptop with PowerPoint or something equivalent to present your speech if you are speaking
Power Cord
Something for you to use to take notes
8. What Happens on the each day?
Day 1 –

A one day education program covering topics on entrepreneurship and business success in
Australia and specifically on the Sunshine Coast followed by
Day 2 –

A one day “pitch & network” program where 12 participants get their business or business
concept analysed and assessed with real time feedback from business and industry experts
(that’s you). The pitch is followed by the ‘World Cafe’ networking and brainstorming session
where participants, business and industry advisors share ideas and brainstorm new ideas and
tips to get help grow each other’s success in business, in the Region and beyond.
9. How Do I Prepare?
Day 1 –
If you are speaking on Day 1 we ask that you prepare a speech that will go for approximately 45
minutes. We also ask that you prepare a PowerPoint presentation or equivalent to go with your
speech. A list of topics will be released prior to the event but essentially cover core areas of business
with info on how to be successful on the Sunshine Coast.
Day 2 –
If you are participating in Day 2 we ask that you bring something to take notes to write comments or
suggestions to put forward to participants who are pitching their ideas. You have the option to stay
for a networking lunch afterwards which will provide the opportunity to you to share your knowledge
and tips in a more relaxed setting.

10. How much time do I need to commit to the event?
If you are participating on Day 1 we are asking for about an hour of your time. On Day 2 we are asking
for about 3 hours which will be slightly longer if you decide to stay on for the networking lunch.
