Animal Habitat Poster Project Project Objective: The students will demonstrate their knowledge of animal habitats by creating a poster that depicts an animal’s: habitat in which it lives, niche (the role it plays within that habitat), physical characteristics, diet, life cycle, and particular behaviors. Procedure: This project will be done at home and is due Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Students will choose an animal to research Students may use books/internet websites to conduct their research. Some helpful websites are: http://www.nhptv.org/natureworks/nw4.htm http://nationalzoo.si.edu/animals/animalindex/ Students will creatively display the following information in six separate sections on the poster. Each section will be labeled as such: Habitat Niche Structural Adaptations Food Web Life Cycle Behavioral Adaptations Students will use a standard size poster board to display their information The animal should be hand-drawn or they can use a picture from a magazine or clip art This picture should show other nonliving and living items in the animal’s habitat Students should also display at least three other animals that are found in this particular habitat The featured animal, as well as the other animals, should be neatly labeled on the poster The poster should have a title that identifies the primary animal and is displayed using creativity The background of the poster should be colored or made with construction paper, colored paper, or some other material(s) to accurately depict the animal’s habitat The student should prepare an oral presentation which will reflect the information he/she learned about the animal (use note cards to plan this) The rubric and graphic organizer should be attached to the backside of the poster, and both the rubric and organizer are on the next pages Name _______________________________________ Animal Project Poster Points Requirement Points Earned Possible Poster has title 1 Poster is neat 2 Poster has 8-10 pictures 2 Poster answers 10 questions from graphic organizer 3 Graphic Organizer is attached to the back of poster 3 Resources are listed 2 Turned in on time 2 Total Points 15 Animal Project Presentation Points Requirement Possible Makes eye contact with audience 3 Speaks loudly enough to be heard clearly 3 Stands up straight, uses appropriate body language 2 Answers 10 questions from graphic organizer 2 Uses note cards 2 Answers questions 2 Ready for presentation on due date 1 Total Points 15 Points Earned Graphic Organizer for Research 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) Animal: _________________________ Habitat (where does the animal live?) _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ 3 other animals in its habitat: ______________________________________ Niche (what role does the animal play in its habitat?)
