The Old Log Church Museum is a small community museum and is responsible for documenting, preserving and sharing Yukon’s spirited history. The permanent collection of the OLCM has 4500+ objects in the collection ranging from archival materials to ecclesiastical vestments and artifacts. Working with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide leadership and management to advance the mission, mandate, vision, values and strategic directions of the museum. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of museum operations including: overseeing financials, demonstrating leadership, policy and standards development, administrative duties, strategic planning, collections management, exhibition research and interpretation management, and coordinating the customer service experience. The main responsibilities of the position include: Meeting annual budgetary and operation targets and objectives by monitoring attendance and revenues through developing short and long-term strategies Writing grants for Municipal, Territorial and Federal funding and overseeing contracts Developing new business opportunities to engage a new and broader audience by expanding sources of sustainable funding including governmental, corporate sponsorships, grants, individual contributions, society memberships, and general fundraising Reviewing, updating, developing and implementing policies, procedures, and museum standards Representing the museum to the heritage community Developing a strong and positive working relationship with the YCHS Board and attending monthly meetings, providing status reports and updates as required Enhancing the external position of the museum through collaboration with the local arts and heritage community, business partners and the general public on a local, territorial and national level Recruiting, training and supervising summer students, interns and contractors Coordinating and ensuring an excellent customer service experience Maintaining clear and accurate collection records as well as administration, human resources, and bookkeeping Overseeing the display, storage, security, preservation and maintenance of all collection items Researching, curating and presenting exhibitions and assisting with research enquiries Documenting and monitoring environmental conditions in displays, storage areas Reviewing and updating current programming initiatives as well as creating new programs and activities Supporting the development of all communications such as press releases, website and social media updates, newsletter productions Ideal Candidate Qualifications: Post-secondary education in Museum Studies, Museum Management, Curatorial Studies or a related field of study A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in the cultural heritage field with evidence of supervisory duties A sound knowledge of Canadian museum standards, ethical practices, policies and procedures Ability to work independently and a be a self-starter Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills A proven track record in writing grant applications and/or executing fundraising activities Experience with bookkeeping, payroll, and financial management as well as strong administrative skills and the ability to effectively meet deadlines Willingness to participate in active engagement with the media, board members, other museum/heritage groups, educational institutions, and museum visitors Experience with organizing, creating and delivering interpretive programming Background in using social media platforms as a marketing and advertising tools Experience working with museum database software Willingness to participate in professional development opportunities Knowledge of Yukon and/or Yukon Anglican Church History is considered an asset How to apply: Please email your resume and cover letter to: logchurch@klondiker.com attention Hiring Committee or mail to: Hiring Committee Old Log Church Museum C/o Yukon Church Heritage Society Box 31461 Whitehorse YT Y81A 6K8 Applicants selected for an interview will be asked to submit a portfolio with detailed descriptions of three previous projects they have worked on.
