SCQF Database Report – May 2014
The following data is extracted from the SCQF database as at 23 April 2014. This data is current at
time of printing. Please note that the database only holds information on qualifications or learning
programmes credit rated since 2006. The database now includes HEI nationally recognised degree
and postgraduate provision. It also holds information about SQA nationally recognised qualifications
such as NQ group awards, HNCs and HNDs which are delivered by colleges.
(NB Please note that figures in this report relating to the OU are incomplete but will be included in the
next quarterly report).
The full database can be viewed and interrogated at http://www.scqf.org.uk.
General information

There are currently 10,758 entries. As indicated above, this rise is mainly due to the fact that entries
now include HEI nationally recognised degrees and postgraduate provision. The exceptions to these
are any programmes under medicine, dentistry or veterinary work.

Of the total entries, 131 (1.2%) are credit rated by FE colleges; 149 (1.4%) are credit rated by SCQF
Approved CRBs; 2325 (21.6%) are credit rated by SQA; and 8153 (75.8%) are credit rated by HEIs.

Of the 8153 HEI entries, 138 (1.7%) are Third Party credit rated.

Of the 131 FE college entries, 59 (45.0%) are Third Party credit rated.

There are currently 56 CRBs listed (some merged colleges are not yet under their new name) of
which 45 (80.4 %) are active (+ 16.1 % increase since February 2014 – NB this increase is largely
due to the recent addition of HEI degree programmes and the HEIs that own them).

Of the 45 active CRBs, 19 are FE colleges, 19 are HEIs, 6 are SCQFP Approved CRBs and SQA
(includes the Credit Rating Service, Awarding Body and Accreditation)

There are currently 277 different programme owners, of which 237 (85.6%) are Third Party
organisations (includes joint ownership by SQA and another body).

There are currently 949 entries (8.8 %) listed as Third Party provision (includes provision jointly
owned by SQA and another body) of which 108 (11.4%) are owned by FE colleges and 130 (13.7%)
are owned by HEIs.
