Research Scientist – Algae Cultivation

Description: This position represents a unique opportunity to help develop and operate an integrated facility combining algal wastewater treatment and biofuel production. Candidates will be responsible for laboratory-scale algae cultivation experiments as well as analysis and optimization of full scale algae biomass production. Applicants must possess organizational skills with high attention to detail and must be able to work well both independently and as part of a team. Your work will be conducted in a fast-paced work environment for a small company focused on commercialization of emerging technologies at the water-energy nexus.
Requirements:

MS in Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Marine Sciences, Environmental
Engineering, or related disciplines

Experience in algae cultivation, and/or algal ecology & physiology

Experience in experiment design and data analysis

Experience with laboratory skills including water quality analyses, growth rate determination, microscopy, flow cytometry, operation of field equipment, etc

Individual who is self-motivated and a strong team player with an interest in developing sustainable biofuels
Tasks will include:

Experiment design

Photobioreactor maintenance

Culturing techniques

Water quality analyses

Microscopy

Field work (boating, working in the water, sample collection)

Data entry, analysis, and report writing

Organizing, ordering, storing, cleaning
