Hillington Highlights March 2015 Dear Parent/Carers, Refurbishment Update Work is continuing in the Infants’ Toilets. I will continue to keep you informed of the progress and the next steps throughout the refurbishment programme. Stars of the Week On Thursday afternoons each week we celebrate children’s achievement at assemblies by awarding children a ‘Star of the Week certificate’ for making progress in the four capacities of Curriculum for Excellence: successful learners, responsible citizens, effective contributors and confident individuals. We hope that they really enjoy learning in the great outdoors. We would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Quate, Mrs Gibson, Ms Russell and Miss Dawson for making this possible for them. We are continuing to fundraise, with P1a, P2/1 and P2a having a class Easter Egg raffle. P3, P4/3 and P4a have had a small toy sale and P5/4, P5a and P6a are having a sponsored fitness circuit on Wednesday 25th March 2015. Thank you to everyone for your contributions. Primary 7 really appreciate it! Red Nose Day Many thanks to Mrs Gibson (Primary 7/6 teacher) for organising the fund-raising for Red Nose Day. We made a grand total of £650! Well done! Primary 3a Assembly A big thank you to Primary 3a who put on a very informative ‘Castles’ assembly for family, friends and other children. The children shared all their knowledge about ‘Knights and Castles’ and also their recent visit to see Sir Hugo, at The Burrell Collection. They showed some of the work they had done in class and even entertained us with medieval dancing! A fabulous display of castles, which the children had made at home was on show, and later other classes got a chance to visit P3a and discuss the castles they had made. Well done P3a! Primary 4a Assembly Well done to P4a for their assembly on ‘Ancient Egypt’. This followed from their visit to find out about the Egyptians at the Kelvingrove museum. They met Tutankhamen and Cleopatra as the children helped us to travel back in time to Ancient Egyptian times in their time machine. They sang brilliantly and entertained us with Egyptian props they had made. Their assembly demonstrated that they had a really good understanding of the Egyptians. Thank you! Primary 5a Assembly Another excellent assembly was conducted by Primary 5a. They demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the ‘Solar System’ to the audience. We found out about all of the planets and enjoyed looking at the models the children had produced of the solar system. The children entertained us with their creative dancing to ‘The Planets’. We particularly enjoyed their singing at the end! Very good! Head Lice Recently, some parents have reported incidents of head lice. Can I request that you check your child’s head on a regular basis please? If you require any information or medication, please contact Guidi’s pharmacy on Thurston Road who will be more than happy to support you with this. The medication is free if you bring a sample with you to the chemist. Can I request that after treatment, please continue to keep checking on a weekly basis to ensure no further application is required. Thanking you in advance with your support for this matter. Inhalers & Epi-pens If your child has asthma and requires to use an inhaler, epi-pen or both in school, may I take this opportunity to request that we have one held in school at all times. By supporting us with this we are ensuring that we are doing everything we can to keep your child safe in school and out on visits too! Please contact the school at your earliest convenience so that we can put the necessary arrangements in place, thank you. Visit from the Easter Bunny One of the highlights of the year is the Easter Egg Hunt which will take place on Friday 27 th March. Every child will receive a Crème Egg. We would like to thank the Parent Council for providing these for every child. Class Visits P5/4- visited ‘Vikingar in Largs to learn more about ‘The Vikings’. Easter Service This year’s Easter Service will take place on Friday 27th March at 2pm in St Nicholas Parish Church. The change of date is to allow the Primary 7 children who will be on the Benmore Residential trip to participate in the service.
