Barbara Bermudo Co-Anchor, “Primer Impacto Highly celebrated journalist, Bárbara Bermudo, is the co-anchor of Univision Network’s afternoon news-magazine show, “Primer Impacto” (First Impact) one of the highest-rated programs in the United States and in 12 Latin-American countries. Bermudo joined the Univision family in 1999 as a reporter for the network’s owned-and-operated station in Miami, WLTV-Channel 23. During her tenure, she covered key stories for the local community, earning an Emmy nomination for her work on a news piece about drugs and adolescents in the South Florida community. Three years later, she joined the network as a reporter for “Primer Impacto” covering high-profile stories including the terrorist attacks of September 11, among others. In addition to her current role with “Primer Impacto,” Bermudo has served as spokesperson and host for some of the network’s most important events. In 2006, she joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg in announcing Univision’s first time broadcasting the “Latin GRAMMY® Awards” from New York, and has since represented Univision in its announcement of the show’s new location each year. In addition, she co-hosts the network’s “Noche de Estrellas” red-carpet pre-show for Univision’s “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina.” Bermudo has hosted several other network programs such as the health special, “Pon Tu Peso Bajo Control… Entérate,” “Primer Impacto’s” news special for the 5-year anniversary of Sept. 11 and special tribute shows in memory of the late Tejano music singer, Selena, and the legendary Spanish singer, Rocío Durcal, among others. She has also served as a reporter and co-host for numerous other network shows such as “Despierta América” and the late-night news program, “Última Hora.” Additionally, Bermudo has joined the Univision Sports team several times during telecasts of some of the most-exciting sporting events on Spanish-language TV, including the World Cup Championship tournaments, which received dedicated coverage on “Primer Impacto.” Prior to joining Univision, she served as a producer and reporter for Telemundo’s entertainment show “Edición Especial.” Bermudo began her career in broadcasting in the ‘90s at CBS Telenoticias, where she worked as an intern in the news department. Upon completing her university studies in 1997, she moved back to her native Puerto Rico and was immediately hired as a reporter for Televicentro Network’s morning show and 6 p.m. news program. Throughout her career she has received numerous honors for her work including a special recognition from the City of Miami as one of the most notable professionals of Puerto Rican descent in the community and an award from the United Way organization for her journalistic contributions in covering Hispanic issues in South Florida.
