Restorative Practice Training for Schools Target Audience: Teachers, Guidance Officers, Restorative Justice is a process towards managing harmful behaviour and community conflict that sees wrongdoing as essentially a violation of people and relationships. It is more concerned with harm done, rather than which rules/laws have been broken. It is more concerned with making things right rather than what punishment is deserved. Schools that incorporate restorative justice into student management can: Address causes of harmful behaviour rather than react to the symptoms Use restorative practices to address the behaviour, repair the harm, and reintegrate wrongdoers back into the school community. Reduce the demands on senior and middle managers to manage responses to misbehaviour Work ‘with’ rather than ‘do to’ young wrongdoers. The restorative conference (the most formal of the restorative processes) brings together those responsible for – and those most affected by – a serious wrongdoing. Participants address the causes of the harm, the impact on those affected and investigate ways to make amends and minimise the risk of future wrongdoing. This 3 day training will equip participants to facilitate restorative conferences following events which do harm and lead their school in restorative approaches to improving behaviour and relationships.
