Susi Messenger August 2013 Natural Colorants for CP soap Version 3 Test pots 23/5/2013 were made in white soap (75 % olive/ 25 % coconut oil) taken out of moulds and photographed on 24/5/2013 and again 2 days later to show colour development. Colorants were added at the rate of 1 tsp ppo (per pound of oils) This exercise is ongoing and new samples will be added and posted on the Soaping 101 Study Hall Facebook page, Cold Process Soapmakers Facebook page. NOTES: Tandoori Red is a powder foundin an Indian grocery. I have been informed that it is E123. Indian Black Salt is a volcanic salt with sulphurous undertones. Star Anise Wood is the pods of the star anise that has had the essentially aromatic seeds carefully removed. The wood is ground in a coffee grinder until it was fine. The Wilton Ti O2 was a bottle found in a cake decorating supplies store. It is emulsified in water and glycerine. Aduki or adzuki beans are found in groceries. Please FACEBOOK any other suggestions to add to my next list of experiments. On Day 4 after making the above sample pots , I cut the samples in the middle and exposed the core of the colorant after 3 days had elapsed. There are some comparison images between two similar colorants or their colourings. Hope this helps you in some way in your soap making adventures. Susi@SoYummy Some omissions have been made from Day 2 to Day 4. Any samples that created too much colour during lather was discarded , these being food colourings that were garish and appeared very artificial in the extreme. Any errors are unintentional and are blamed on the early or late hour. Let me know if there are any errors and I can fix them up.
