A sneek peek at Ms. Caple…..I am entering into my fourth year of teaching here at PCIS. I graduated from Central High School c/o 95 as well as from Troy University (Phenix City) in Dec. 2011 with a Bachelors in Elementary Education. I served proudly in the U.S. Army for 7 years. After my military service, my path was not initially toward education but instead Nursing. God, however, saw fit for me to be an educator and I thank Him everyday for allowing me to walk in my calling but to also have gained extensive knowledge in the medical field. I have 3 wonderful sons ages 18, 12 and 11. I am a Christian and attend First Assembly of God Church here in Phenix City. Outside of enriching children’s lives, I am also a Mary Kay consultant, which in turn allows me to enrich women’s lives. Outside of teaching and Mary Kay, I enjoy spending time with my boys, college football (huge Auburn Fan WAR EAGLE), bowling, going to the movies and playing cards. This folder will contain the graded papers for the previous week, a weekly progress report, and important notifications from the office and teachers. Red Devil Folders are to be signed and returned the following day. Student Planners Student planners will be issued to every student at PCIS at the beginning of school. Student planners can contain class agendas, assignments, objectives, and notes to parents. Planners are a very good way to communicate with parents. Planners will be filled in each day by the students; parents are to review the planner daily for notes from teachers as well as objectives covered in class daily. Parents aren’t required to sign the planners daily; however, notes written to parents require signatures. Student behavior expectations Students are expected to: 1. Be Respectful 2. Be Responsible 3. Be Resourceful While at Phenix City Intermediate School and being transported by bus, students are expected to behave in an appropriate manner and exercise self-control. Individual teachers will advise students of class rules and consequences for rule violations as well as rewards for appropriate behavior. Class II and Class III offenses, as defined in the Phenix City Schools Code of Conduct, will be referred immediately to an administrator. Class 1 consequences are as followed: 1st Occurrence– Warning 2nd – Silent Lunch 3rd – Call Parent/Guardian 4th – Counselor Referral 5th – Office Referral Student Cell Phones: No cell phones are allowed at school for 6th & 7th graders UNLESS they participate in sports after school hours. This exception is in place to allow them to communicate with their parents AFTER school hours only. NO STUDENT should have his/her phones visible or audible. If a student has a phone visible or audible in the classroom, the teacher/staff member will contact the office to take up the phone. The phone will be logged and locked in the office until a parent/guardian picks it up. When the phone is turned in, an office referral will be written by the teacher/staff member. Please refer to the Student Hand Book for more information. Dress Code: Students must dress appropriately. Refer to the Student Planner for more guidance. Consequences for not dressing appropriately are: 1st Occurrence- call home for a change of clothes, students will put on a jumpsuit and return to class until proper clothing arrives. 2nd Jumpsuit 3rd Jumpsuit & ISIP 4th Referral for defiance of authority and sent home Grading Policy Evaluation will be based on a child’s progress towards mastering state and local standards. The following grading scale will be used on report cards: A D 90 – 100 60 – 69 B F 80 – 89 0 – 59 C 70 – 79 Students will earn grades based on the following assessments. Major Grades: 65% (Unit Test, Tests, projects, etc). A minimum of 6 major grades will be given each 9 weeks. Minor Grades: 25% (Vocabulary Test, Quizzes). A minimum of 9 minor grades will be given each 9 weeks. Other Grades: 10% (Class work, Homework, Daily participation). A minimum of 12 other grades will be given each 9 weeks. Parent/Teacher Conferences Our team will do everything possible to ensure that the parents remain informed. You will be contacted via phone call, e-mail, written note, Red Devil Folder, student planner, etc. In the event you would like to schedule a Parent/Teacher Conference, please contact the school at (334) 298-8744 and the sixth grade counselor, Mr. Delbridge or teacher, will schedule an appointment for you. This appointment will not be scheduled during instructional time.
