Infection Control Annual Statement November 2015 This statement follows on from the statement published last year. It has been completed following a voluntary Infection Control Audit we had requested from the Brent Infection Control Team by our Infection Control Lead- Dr P Mehta. PURPOSE In line with the Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of practice on prevention and control of infection and its related guidance, this Annual Statement will be generated each year around October/November. It will summarise: Any infection transmission incidents and any lessons learnt and action taken Details of any infection prevention and control (IPC) audits undertaken and any subsequent actions taken arising from these audits Details of any issues that may challenge infection prevention and control including risk assessment undertaken and subsequent actions implemented as a result Details of staff IPC training Details of review and update of IPC policies, procedures and guidance 1. AUDITS The following audits were carried out in the practice: Infection control annual audit – we have rescheduled for our next annual infection control audited visit. Sharps Audit – this was carried out to ensure that the practice follows the sharps bin protocol. The outcome was positive in which the practice adhered to all aspects of the procedure. To re-audit in 1 year. Waste segregation directions audit – this was carried out to ensure that each clinical room had a waste/sharps bin segregation poster display. We found that 1 of the rooms has a simple display where the others had a more detailed one. As a result we will be replacing a detailed poster in the room. To re-audit in 6 months Hand washing directions audit – this audit was carried out to ensure that each room had a hand washing poster displayed next to the sinks in order for staff and patients to use. We found that the nurse’s room did not have this on display (this was due to some works being carried out in this room therefore the display was taken off but not put back on the wall). This will be placed back on the wall. The staff toilets also did not have a display which will now be placed. To re-audit in 6 months. 4.
