Franchised by the Miss Alabama and Miss America Pageants
New name, new date and new location
for former Miss Point Mallard Pageant
Approximately $10,000 in cash scholarships and $22,000 in prizes will be awarded to Miss Spirit
of America and her court. Formerly known as the Miss Point Mallard Pageant, competition is
Sunday, June 22 at the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, 112 Second Ave. S.E.,
Decatur.
Miss Spirit of America was the original name of the pageant, which debuted July 4, 1970 at Delano
Park in Decatur as part of the Spirit of America Festival. The name was changed in 1976 when the
festival and pageant moved to Point Mallard Park. This year, budget cuts by Decatur Parks &
Recreation resulted in changes for the festival and made it necessary for the pageant to be renamed and moved to a new location (no more lawn chairs, rain or sweltering heat!!! Yay!) on a new
date.
“Christmas in June” is the theme for the 2014 Miss Spirit of America Pageant, which will feature
Katie Malone, Miss Point Mallard 2013. Emcee will be the newly crowned Miss Alabama.
Competition is limited to the first 20 contestants who submit completed paperwork by Thursday,
June 19 deadline.
Here is what you must submit:
