New Business: Reviews: Be sure your reviews are entirely complete before submitting them. All bibliographic information must be included for all bindings, not just the one you are reviewing. Only take books you will be able to review. Jamie Renton is having a lot of un-reviewed books returned to her. Performers’ Showcase Updates: It was a big success. Thanks to all of the performers and ACL members who worked to put it together. The rented sound equipment was stolen the night before the Showcase. The board will meet after today’s meeting to determine how to proceed re: payment for the loss, insurance, etc. ACL Institute Update: Registration is open, both online and paper forms. Helfeld Fellows are reminded to simply complete the form and give it to Meredith, since your registration fee is covered. Membership: Remember to renew your membership this month! Next month’s professional development topic will be presented by Gender Spectrum, and will take place during the first hour of the meeting. Humbug Witch: Science Fiction book, called The White Panther (?) from the 1970s. Let Sheila Dickinson know if you have any ideas. Coretta Scott King Breakfast @ ALA Annual: If you want to buy a reserved ACL ticket for the breakfast, email Nina Lindsay. You do not have to be registered for the conference to attend the breakfast. Professional Development: (11:30am- 12pm)- Nina Lindsay leads a conversation about significant happenings at ALA Midwinter: LeVar Burton presentation: He now owns part of Reading Rainbow, and he discussed his upbringing, his mentors, and the importance of literacy for kids. ALA Book Award Winners: Much more overlap between winners in various categories this year than in the past. The achievement awards all went to people of color. Graphic novels won several honors. Day of Diversity: ALSC and the CBC Diversity Committee put on an invitational Day of Diversity pre-conference. It was intended to start a discussion about how to bring more diversity to children’s literature and library services.
