General Meeting Minutes - UNAPPROVED
April 7, 2015 (Approved 0/0/00)
Call to Order: Christy Freriks started meeting at 7:04 pm, a quorum was met,
attached is sign in sheet of all present.
Minutes and Correspondence: (Michelle Asbell) The minutes were approved as
written.
Michelle Asbell shared correspondence. We received thank you notes for soups,
baby gifts for teachers and flowers for one teacher who had a death in the
family.
Principal’s Report: (Mr. Santos) State testing has started. All schools are
expecting their scores to go down due to the new test. The new test is called
the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA). The EAP program is growing. There
will be another EAP school added to support the demand for the program now
that NSD is forced to provide high cap programs. Mr. Santos reported that SV
is working on a new health form. The school can’t share health information
with the PTA so they are looking at a new form that would encourage the PTA
to collect important health information when we do our program.
Next year our full day kindergarten program will be at the kindergarten center
and we are expecting to have two ½ day kindergarten programs at Shelton
View. 5th grade camp is April 8-10, Mr. Santos will be attending part of camp.
Treasurer’s Report: (Shari Neal) Shari presented the budget report to the CoPresidents. The Read-a-thon collected $8,100 in revenue. Box Tops & labels
made $250 in gift cards. The chess club was cost neutral and the chess
tournament made over $400.
Legislative/Advocacy Report: (Jasmine Fry) Jasmine reported that Wa. State
PTA is working closely to ensure that basic education is fully funded.
Rosemary McAuliffe said we should focus on providing a well rounded
education. We are encouraged to make our voices heard. All letters and data
collected are shared during session and are important. Check SV Facebook and
get involved.
Emergency Preparedness Report: Nothing to report.
Committee Reports/New Business
Staff Appreciation Report: Staff Appreciation Week is May 4-8. Monday is
breakfast, Tuesday is Taco Bar, Wednesday is Grant A Wish, Thursday is flowers
and Friday is an International Lunch.
Acorn/Apple Awards: Lisa Allen reported for the Acorn/Apple committee. The
Acorn recipients were Michelle Asbell and Jane Chiodo. They will be announced
again at the volunteer appreciation luncheon.
Moms & Muffins: May 1st @ 8:30 AM in the gym. Please feel free to park on the
field. Ukulele club will be performing.
Family Bingo: It was very successful. It made money this year, approximately
$1,000. We need a committee to work this event next year.
Chess Tournament: The tournament made a profit of $850.
Classic Books: The program ends this week. There were about 35 kids in the
program this year. The program needs more books for the 3rd grade. We are
considering changing the format of the program. We may design it more like a
book club. If you have suggestions please contact Bonnie P.
Book Fair: The book fair is scheduled for May 11-15. Set up will happen on
May 8th. We will need a new chair for this program next year. We need
someone who can gather volunteers.
Budget Approval: (Shari Neal) Shari presented the 2015-2016 budget
document and gave it to the Co-Presidents. Many things stayed the same.
We bumped up the teacher’s stipends from $175 to $200 per year. We added
more money for prizes for Reflections.
MOTION #1: Shari moved that we accept the budget as presented. It was
seconded and passed.
Nominating Committee: (Mindy Dolan) Mindy presented the nominating
committee document for the proposed 2015-2016 BOD. All of the folks on the
list introduced themselves. See attached for the nomination report.
MOTION #2: Mindy motioned that we accept the new BOD as presented. It was
seconded and passed.
Read-a-thon: (Melissa Stevenson) Melissa reported that the read-a-thon was
very successful. See attached. We will check the dates and days to be sure
they are correct next year and add information for matching donations.
Check Signers: (Shari Neal) For the 2015-2016 school year we will be removing
Christy Freriks and Gretchen Cloninger and adding Jane Chiodo and Michelle
Asbell. Check signers will then be: Shari Neal Tresurer, Bridgette Reed COPresident, Jane Chiodo CO-President, and Michelle Asbell Secretary.
Standing Rules: We are making a few changes. Membership is moving to an
online only format next year. We need to pay for the pay pal fees. Here are the
increases to membership. Individual goes from $14 to $16, Family from $22 to
$24 and teacher from $12 to $14. Business will remain at $35.
The second change to the Standing Rules is that we are adding an EAP Liaison
to our BOD. This is something we have demonstrated a need for.
MOTION #3: Christy made a motion to increase our membership fees and add
an EAP Liaison to our BOD. It was seconded and passed.
Convention Update: Convention is fun. Please join us. Contact Jane or
Bridgette if you’d like to attend. It is scheduled for the weekend at the end of
Spring Break.
2015-2016 Fundraising Ideas: A few ideas have been offered including a
