Graduation Notes Class of 2015 Dear Parent/Guardian of a North Laurel High School Senior: We expect that you have a great number of questions about graduation, so we wanted to take this opportunity to share some general information with you. The following will explain what graduating seniors need to do to make graduation day run smoothly. Graduation Practice: Friday, May 29th 8:15 Note If you are absent or late, you will not be allowed to walk the line on Saturday. Walking the line at graduation is a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT! Note Only seniors who have met ALL requirements for graduation will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony on May 30th. Seniors finishing requirements during the summer will be allowed to participate in the Summer School Graduation. (Date to be announced) All Senior debts must be cleared. Contact Kelli Gray (862-4707) 1) Seniors will be dismissed from class for free breakfast and instructions. We will practice in the gym. 2) Practice will not be complete until everyone understands the ceremonial procedure. Afterward, if you are 18 years old, you may sign out and leave campus. If you are under 18, then you have until Friday, May 22nd to bring the enclosed permission note from your parents/guardians allowing you to sign out and leave campus. Permission notes should be returned to Kelli Gray or Wilma Sears in the library. All permission notes must have a telephone number to be used for verification. Parents/guardians have until Friday, May 22nd , to notify the school that their child is NOT allowed to leave campus. Graduation Day: Saturday, May 30th at 10:00 a.m. 1) All seniors must be in their JAGS room by 8:00 a.m. You will not be allowed to walk the graduation line if you arrive after 8:00 a.m. Traffic is very congested on graduation day so do not wait until the last minute to leave home. Bring your gown on a hanger so it will not get wrinkled. (Remember to iron the gown on low heat). Gowns will not be ironed at school. Sponsors will check for appropriate attire. 2) NO VISITORS will be allowed in your homeroom. 3) Appropriate Attire: Girls: Wear skirts or dresses and comfortable shoes (preferably flats). DO NOT WEAR shorts, pants, tennis shoes or sunglasses. Boys: Wear dress pants, dress shirt, tie, dress shoes (dress boots are OK). DO NOT WEAR shorts, jeans, tennis shoes or sunglasses. Note: If you are not appropriately dressed, you will be removed from the line. 4) Graduation is a formal ceremony which is conducted with dignity and respect. Therefore, graduates will not be allowed to put notes or signs on their graduation hats or wear buttons, corsages, etc. on their gown. The only students allowed to wear alternate sashes, cords or patches are those from the following national honor organizations: Beta Club, FFA, National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. 5) Please share this information with your family members and friends who will be attending the NLHS 2015 Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, May 30th, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Seating capacity in the gym is limited, so we ask that family, friends, and others attending the graduation ceremony not arrive before 8:00 a.m. The doors to the gym will not open until 8:00 a.m. IMPORTANT DATES & DEADLINES CLASS OF 2015 Caps and Gowns: o Caps and gowns will be distributed to debt free seniors on Thursday, May 21st. All debts (café, cap & gown, library books, textbooks, etc.) must be paid by May 20th. Please try on cap & gown ASAP to make sure it fits!! If there is any problem with the cap & gown, see Mrs. Sears or Mrs. Gray. Senior Awards Night: o Tuesday, May 26th @ 6:30 p.m. in the NLHS auditorium. Scholarship recognition will begin at 6:30 pm Senior Awards will start at approximately 8:00 pm A list of students receiving scholarships/awards will be posted by Friday 22nd at 12:00 pm. Yearbooks: o Orders can be placed in the library. Cost is $50.00 until June 1. Please be sure to order your copy before leaving school. We have very limited extra copies available.
