Associate Professor (Industrial Tutor) in Chemical & Environmental
Engineering – Full/Part time

Salary:
£48,743 - £58,172 per annum (pro rata for part-time), depending on skills
and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to
performance

Contract Status:
These posts will be offered on a fixed term basis until 31 August
2018. Please specify in your application your preference (full-time or

Hours of Work:
36.25 hours per week (full-time) or part-time - negotiable

The Purpose of the Role:
To provide industrial expertise to support the teaching and learning of design and related modules
in chemical and environmental process engineering. Provide support and advice to students
undertaking an industrial year. Advise the Department on the development of its teaching and
learning strategy and support department engagement with the process engineering industries.

Support, enhance and deliver modules on engineering design and topics
related to industry practice. Deliver high quality teaching and learning to
undergraduate and MSc students.
Undertake administrative work required in support of teaching and learning
and the departments key business and operational activities
Perform the role of industrial tutor providing advice to students planning an
industrial placement, evaluating appropriateness of placement opportunities
and reviewing placement reports.
Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role.

Qualifications/
Education
Essential
BEng or Meng or equivalent in
Chemical Engineering or closely
related subject
Desirable
Membership or chartered status with an
appropriate engineering institute.
Skills/Training
Chartered Engineer Status
Engineering knowledge to allow
the successful candidate to
enhance and support the teaching
of process engineering design
Knowledge of the techniques used in the
delivery of high quality teaching and
learning
Interest in contributing to the teaching
of design at undergraduate and MSc
level
Proven administrative skills
Strong track record of people

Significant professional
engineering experience in the

process engineering industries
Ability to use and develop appropriate IT
based teaching materials
Experience of either training or teaching
in an industrial context

Advising students on industrial placements in role as industrial tutor
