Description of Manufacturing production Indices 1. Data Source Manufacturing production quantity index number is considered to be one of the important statistical measures used to follow up the development in production size and trends as well as estimate national accounts indicators at constant prices in addition to other uses. Index numbers department in CSO produces quarterly and annual reports on manufacturing index numbers within a series of indices for all economic activities taken 2007 as a base year where the first inputs and outputs index has been calculated since the 70s of the last century. Data of quarterly questionnaire of manufacturing index number in the large industrial establishments provided by Directorate of Industrial Statistics were adopted to calculate inputs and outputs price index number. 2. Methodology The goods sample ( 199 products) was selected based on the relative importance of the industrial products excluding products of relative importance approximate to zero. The sample was divided into 18 categories according to ISIC3 excluding 4 categories due to their low relative importance, the total value of the selected products formed 95% of the total manufacturing production value noting that the survey covered 419 large industrial establishments , 68 of which are public and 351 are private and mixed. Reference Date: one month Exceptions Coverage: Kurdistan Region Questionnaire items: Governorate, name of establishment, number of product classification, products produced, measure unit, quantity value in dinar, unit price in dinar, raw material. 3. Concepts and Definitions ( Indicators): 1. Manufacturing Industries: convert raw material to final or intermediate products. 2. Production quantity: Quantity of goods produced 4. Classifications: Manufacturing activity is classified based on ISIC3 into 18 categories ( 2-digits) include industrial products reach to (7-digits) where 4 caregories were excluded owing to the low relative importance . Method of Calculation Production value by category in manufacturing taken from the directorate of Industrial Statistics was adopted in the calculation of the category relative importance ( industry weight) as follows: category production value Category relative importance = (industry weight) × 100 Total production value in manufacturing These weights are used to calculate the general index number of industrial production quantity , the production value of food products and beverages, refined petroleum products and non-metallic minerals products industries formed 84% of total production value in manufacturing while the weight of each product within a category is calculated based on its relative importance as follows: Value of product Weight of industrial product = × Industry weight Sum of category production value These weights are used to calculate the index numbers of production quantity in manufacturing. Lasperes formula used the weights of 2007 base year was used to calculate production index number in manufacturing as follows: Q10 W IQ 100 W Q Where: IQ = Index number of industrial production quantity Q1 = Quantity in the comparison quarter Q0 = Quantity in the base year 2007 W = Weight Data Availability Data are disseminated at governorates level excluding Kurdistan Region. Annual and quarterly reports are produced Data are available on CSO web in PDF and Excel format
