Position Overview

Educational Designers work with other Educational Designers and the Educational Support Coordinators
to assist Faculties and their Schools to collaboratively design and develop innovative curriculum design
and effective learning environments including through the use of educational technologies.
They promote evidence-based good teaching practice and support the professional learning of academic
staff in learning and teaching.
Staff are required to apply specialist pedagogical expertise at a Faculty or University-wide level, initiate
and manage specific projects for the Division and act as mentors for other Educational Designers.
Principal Responsibilities
This section usually comprises of 8 to 12 ‘outcome’ statements describing the key requirements for this
position in an approximate order of priority. The statements should clearly demonstrate what is to be
achieved (the end result of actions) and how that action is taken.
For appointment at Level 6
1. Collaborate with academic staff and other content specialists:

Providing expert assistance on the most appropriate design and choice of media for facilitating
student learning in all modes of delivery; and

Coordinating projects that design new courses, subjects (or sets of subjects) or undertake major
revisions.
The team will develop sustainable high quality learning designs and resources incorporating sound
educational design principles that are consistent with University policies.
2. Support the professional learning of academic staff in learning and teaching including innovative
curriculum design, educational technologies and assisting them to embed courses/ subjects in the eenvironment.
3. Provide planning support to Schools with respect to course design and review, learning resources
development and more broadly in the enhancement of learning and teaching.
4. Participate as a team member in DLTS and University-wide learning and teaching projects.
5. Other duties appropriate to the classification as required.
For appointment at Level 7
1. Provide leadership by:

Applying specialist pedagogical expertise (e.g. online assessment or contributing to Universitywide professional development programs for academics);

Initiating, designing, developing and managing specific projects for the Division; and

Mentoring other Educational Designers.
2. Collaborate with academic staff and other content specialists:

Providing expert assistance on the most appropriate design and choice of media for facilitating



Selection Criteria
Detail the necessary qualifications, knowledge, experience, skills and aptitudes that the applicants must have
(essential) to carry out the responsibilities of the role successfully. They should be numbered and ranked in
order of importance. There should be no more than 10 essential criteria and 4 desirable criteria.
Applicants are expected to address the selection criteria when applying for this position.
Essential
The first of the essential criteria will be the Qualifications & Experience or an equivalent level of knowledge as
per the Position Classification Standards/Descriptors or Standards, Expectations and Qualifications Policy Academic Staff.
1. A degree in education or another relevant area, with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience
to consolidate and extend the theories and principles learned; or an equivalent level of knowledge
gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
2. Demonstrated pedagogical expertise in University learning and teaching.
3. An ability to provide leadership of specific learning and teaching projects.
4. An ability to mentor other staff.
5. Demonstrated skill in the design and development of learning resources including the use of online
and digital and educational technologies.
6. Excellent written communication skills.
7. Well developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team and to manage timelines.
8. Willingness to travel between campuses as required by the position.
Desirable
Desirable criteria are the qualifications, knowledge, experience, skills and aptitudes that the applicant would
ideally have but are not deemed essential.
