Bulletin Year 2015-2016: This checklist should be used to track the completion of all admission requirements for the Teacher Education
Program. It is the responsibility of the teacher education candidate to ensure that all requirements and deadlines have been met. Students
are highly encouraged to check the status of their admission by viewing the Student Information Sheet.
Tier One: Pre-Admission of Candidacy
1. Apply to Teacher Education: https://ehsportal.cmich.edu/forms/css-admission.php A non-refundable one time-application fee of
$50 will be charged to the student’s account.
2. Completion of EDU 107 – Introduction to Teaching, with a minimum grade of “B” (3.00) or an approved equivalency.
3. Completion of Technical Standards Form https://ehsportal.cmich.edu/forms/css-techstandards.php
4. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 is required for Pre-Admission. The GPA will be calculated on the student’s cumulative
CMU or at regionally accredited institutions.
5. Confirm candidacy with a CEHS Center for Student Services Academic Advisor prior to deadline.
After completion of Tier One Elementary students will take: ART 345, MUS 330, HSC 343, PES 310, and EDU 330
While working toward completion of Tier One Secondary students will take: EDU 107, EDU 290, and HDF 100
Tier Two: Admission of Candidacy
1. Maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0.
2. Have qualifying ACT/MME scores or have passed the Professional Readiness Exam #096*.
3. Completion of English 101 OR English 201 (or one of its approved equivalencies), with a minimum grade of “B-” (2.70).
4. 45-Hour Pre-Professional Experience. The student must complete and document 45 hours of in-classroom experiences, with a
State Certified Educator. Visit the Forms page for the appropriate documentation.
5. Confirm candidacy with a CEHS Center for Student Services Academic Advisor prior to deadline.
After completion of Tier Two Elementary students will take: EDU 393, ENG 315, EDU 380, and SPE 504
After completion of Tier Two Secondary students will take: EDU 310, EDU 325, EDU 450, EDU 495, and SPE 504
Tier Three: Full Admission of Candidacy
1. Completion of your Professional Education Sequence courses with a C+ or higher.
2. Successful completion of your Pre-Student Teaching Field Experience.
3. Overall CMU GPA of a 2.7 or higher.
4. Completion of your Student Teaching application and faculty approval of your major(s)/minor(s) GPA.
5. Confirm candidacy with a CEHS Center for Student Services Academic Advisor prior to deadline.
After completion of Tier Three all students will take: EDU 432 and EDU 458 (student teaching).
*The Michigan Department of Education requires teacher education students to pass the ACT or the Michigan Merit Exam (MME) or the Professional
Readiness Exam #096 (PRE) with the following minimum scores **(The Combined English + Writing ACT scores will be used prior to August 15, 2015.
After August 15, 2015 MDE will no longer accept the Combined English + Writing ACT scores).

Students may take or re-take the ACT or PRE (the ACT is recommended). To schedule to test go to: www.actstudent.org or www.mttc.nesinc.com for the
PRE. Find study resources here: www.ehs.cmich.edu/PREhelp A paper or digital scan of the student’s ACT/MME scores must be on file in the CEHS Center
for Student Services. Verified test results must be received before the admission deadline.***Once sections have been passed, there are alternative
scoring options for the PRE. See an advisor for details.
