Taught Masters SCHOLARSHIP
TERMS AND CONDITIONS 2014/2015
1. The College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Taught Master’s Scholarships will cover tuition
fees.
2. The CACSSS Taught Master’s Scholarships are for Humanities and Social Sciences graduates (excluding
Mathematics, Law and Commerce/Business) who wish to carry out a Taught Master’s programme in the
College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS) at University College Cork, Ireland. Applicants
must have at least Second Class Honours (Grade 1) or equivalent in their first or subsequent degree.
3. Applications are invited from students who will commence a Taught Master’s programme in Autumn
2014. Applicants should already have applied through PAC (www.pac.ie) for the relevant programme.
The award of the scholarship(s) is contingent on the student being accepted to the relevant Taught
Master’s programme.
4. In addition, applicants should complete the CACSSS Taught Master’s Scholarship application form,
which can be accessed at http://www.ucc.ie/en/cacsss/postgraddegrees/
They should include relevant supporting materials and non-returnable transcripts of their academic
record. Graduates of University College Cork do not need to supply transcripts.
5. Applications should be accompanied by a letter of support, on the appropriate form, from a full-time
member of staff who is familiar with the applicant’s work.
6. Applications must be submitted both in hard copy and electronic form. Applications will not be
assessed if they are incomplete or have been received after the advertised closing date of Wednesday,
14 May 2014.
7. Selection of successful applicants on the basis of the materials supplied will be by the Graduate Studies
Committees of the Schools in which the applicants’ Taught Master’s programme is anchored (see point
16).
8. In the case of the Interdisciplinary programmes listed below (see point 15), the College of Arts, Celtic
Studies and Social Sciences Graduate Studies Committee will select the successful applicant, from the
shortlist of two forwarded to the CACSSS Graduate Studies Committee by each individual programme.
9. The award of the Scholarships will only take place if the Committees are satisfied that there are
candidates of sufficient merit.
10. Holders of these scholarships will be required to undertake tutorials and other related duties in
the department/school where they are studying. The studentship scheme will require the student to
undertake 80-119 demo hours/60-89 tutorial hours. The terms and conditions of the studentship

11. Should, during the period of the Scholarship, a successful applicant also be the recipient of any other
scholarship or grant of a like magnitude or greater which covers fees, s/he will be required to forego the

award of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Taught Master’s Scholarship but will retain
the title of College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Taught Master’s Scholar.
12. The Scholarships are for one year full-time or two years part-time only and are not extendable for any
reason. If the Taught Programme is officially of two years’ duration, then the Scholarship can be renewed
for a second year, subject to satisfactory reports from the student and supervisor at the end of Year 1.
13. Applications will be assessed according to the criteria as specified in the application, which include
the following:
 Applicant’s academic record and his/her aptitude for a Master’s degree
 Applicant’s statement of interest
14. Successful applicants must confirm their intention to take up the Scholarship by Monday, 23 June
2014, with the relevant contact address below.
