Scholarship Regulations At IAA Introduction The Board of IAA has defined three levels of scholarship award: financial assistance, academic excellence and sport. All scholarships are subject to annual review and dependent on applicants continuing to satisfy the requirements as well as an annual resubmission of required documentation and/or application. The Board decides the number and type of scholarships to be awarded for any academic year. This is normally done at the first Board meeting closest to admissions opening for the following year. The Board reserves the right to award or not award any scholarship and on any basis. The Board may decide to award full or partial scholarships. Requirements i. Financial Assistance Scholarships These are available to all students at IAA from Grades 1-12. Financial Assistance scholarships are only awarded on the basis of partial tuition support (the percentage to be determined by the Board and on individual application basis). Financial Assistance Scholarships are awarded to cover tuition fees only and do not cover any additional fees and/or costs such as, but not limited to, uniform, texts, field trips and other fees/costs related to the school’s programmes. Parents wishing to apply for Financial Assistance must supply the following: Written application Substantiated evidence of family income and/or holdings and/or sources of additional income Documents/evidence justifying the need In most cases, these must be submitted by February of the preceding year. Decision on applications for the upcoming year for the award of Financial Assistance are usually given by end of March of the preceding year. Financial Assistance Scholarships are not available for new enrolments and/or new applicants to IAA. Late applications from current students are not usually accepted; however, the Board understands that financial need may occur at any time and will act according to their own discretion. Decisions related to applications during the academic year with be made by the Board at the next scheduled Board Meeting. Financial Assistance Scholarships are reviewed annually and annual reapplication must be made. ii. Academic Scholarships These are available to both newly and currently enrolled secondary students (Grades 6-12) at IAA. Academic Scholarships are awarded to students for their entire education at IAA but are subject to annual review based on satisfying the below regulations. Academic Scholarships cover only tuition fees. Parents are responsible for uniform, texts, field trip and other fees/costs related to the school’s programmes. Late applications are not accepted. Decisions for award of Academic Scholarship are given by end of March of the preceding year. All parents wishing to apply on their child’s behalf must supply the following: Completed Scholarship Application form Supporting documentation including references All students applying for academic scholarship must also sit a scholarship examination and undergo an interview ( timing of which is determined annually). The results of the exam and interview are not shared with students and/or parents. The Board shall determine the number of academic scholarships awarded in any one year. New Students Award of Academic Scholarships to new students from grade 6-11 is based on: High grades in entrance tests- English and Maths all need to be in the upper levels Past reports References Interview Current students Continuation of the receipt of an Academic Scholarship is subject to an annual review which is based on the following: Maintenance of a GPA 6 or above Positive attitude towards school- no letters sent home regarding behaviour and/or suspensions Contributions to school life- involvement in school activities, teams, community service iii. Sports Scholarships These are awarded on an annual basis and are available for students in Grades 6-12. Sports Scholarships are partial scholarships only and shall not exceed more than 50% of tuition fees applicable to the student’s grade level. Parents will remain responsible for, and not limited to, uniform, texts, field trip and other fees/costs related to the school’s programme. Students wishing to apply for a Sports Scholarship must apply the following: A written application addressed to the IAA Board Evidence of sporting records and/or achievements Recommendations from the Athletic Directions outlining reasons for consideration of award.
