Creative Facilitation Techniques for Person-Centered Planning with All Students
Facilitators:
Nerina and John Robson, Winnipeg
Nerina and John are regular facilitators on this important topic for
inclusive educators. Nerina brings a wealth of experience from her
background in community leadership, while John brings to the table his
past experience in management.
The term, Person-Centered Planning (O’Brien, Forest and Pearpoint), refers to a family of
approaches to organizing and guiding community change in alliance with people, their families
and friends
Person-Centered Planning has distinctive practices, but all share common foundational beliefs:
o
The person at the focus of planning, and those who know or love the person, are the
primary supports on the person’s life direction.
o The purpose of Person-Centered Planning is learning through shared action.
o Person-Centered Planning seems to change common patterns of community life.
o The process stimulates community hospitality and enlists community members
in assisting individuals to define and to work toward a desirable future.
Nerina and John will lead participants through an understanding of Creative Facilitation for
Person-Centered Planning, and will focus on key techniques and tools to fully support
individuals for the future!

Thursday August 23rd – Full Day (9:00-3:00) –
Talent Development/Enrichment – Creative Problem Solving Facilitator:
Kevin Lamoureux, Instructor, Faculty of Education
University of Winnipeg
Thomas L. Friedman in his number one selling book, The World is Flat,
concludes by stating, “the most important attribute you can have is creative
imagination” for success in the 21st century. If this is so important it begs the
question, where do our kids develop and hone these skills?
Join us for a day designed to inspire! Kevin Lamoureux will lead the group through the
development of techniques in the area of Creative Problem Solving, which you can take away
for use in your classroom or apply as a strategy in life.
o Creative Problem Solving (CPS) is a proven method for approaching a problem or
challenge in an imaginative and innovative way. It’s a tool that helps people re-define
the problems they face, come up with breakthrough ideas and then take action on these
new ideas!
o CPS is a structured process and also a very flexible one. When you begin to use and
internalize the CPS process, you find that it’s cyclical. You begin to see how to move
from step to step, and how to jump back and forth between steps.
o When CPS becomes part of your own way of thinking and working, you can
use one step at a time, as you need it, when you need it. Once you
understand the fundamentals of CPS, you can adapt this process to every
situation you encounter, thereby realizing its power.

Thursday August 23rd – Full Day (9:00-3:00) – Assistive Technology –
It’s Not What You Know, It’s What You’re Willing To Learn!
Facilitators:
Sunrise School Division Assistive Technology Team
Assistive Technology supports are accommodations. Accommodations
make school accessible to the student – any student. Sunrise Assistive
technology committee members will present strategies and tools that are
available to the school teams to support students and teachers. Whether
the need is literacy (you know, reading and writing), memory, staying on
task (we all need help with that), or inclusion opportunities, we have
something that will spark an idea as you program for your students or
support your team. It’s the ripple effect - Teachers and students teach us
how one tool can help many. This day is meant to provide the participants
with information and time to explore and learn.
