_______________________________________________________________________________ Optimal Health Program _______________________________________________________________________________ Garner Equine has developed two optimal health programs, Performance Horse and Geriatric/Retired horse, to help you in the scheduling of yearly preventative and maintenance procedures for your horse. Both programs include a 10% discount on services upon full enrollment, with two payment options to choose from. The staff at Garner Equine can help you to determine which program and payment plan is right for you and your horse. Performance horse : Yearly Vaccinations- Rabies, Rhinopneumonitis, West Nile Virus, Eastern/Western Equine Encephalitis, Tetanus Toxoid, Influenza. Annual Physical Consult/Exam- Includes an assessment of overall health, examining of eyes, teeth, auscultation of the heart, lungs and abdomen. Exam of skin and other areas as deemed necessary. Nutritional Consult/Review- As horses perform at different levels, attention should be placed on maintenance of body condition score, in the 4-5-6 range (1 to 10) scale. For the performance athlete, nutritional needs vary greatly; there are even more specific standards for developing and maintaining a healthy horse that can endure the workload expected of it. You will receive guidance and recommendations on proper nutrition for your specific horse, with emphasis placed on optimal health, followed by ration cost. In other words, we will help you choose the least cost ration that provides the BEST nutritional balance in YOUR instance. Dental Float- A horse’s top row of teeth naturally sits wider than the bottom row, causing sharp points to develop over time. This among other dental problems can cause pain, difficulty while eating, oral lacerations, training issues resulting from resentment towards the bit, and weight loss. A diamond coated power float is used to level teeth, remove sharp points, and fix any other misalignment issues. Bit seats are placed to enable comfortable bit carry and negate any dental related performance issues.* 6 month Vaccination Boosters- Rhinopneumontis, West Nile Virus, and Influenza are administered as a booster every 6 months to ensure effectiveness because some vaccinations produce an immunity of shorter duration than other vaccinations. This is of utmost importance when hauling horses, as there is frequent contact with horses carrying respiratory diseases. Coggin’s Test- Tests for Equine Infectious Anemia, a non curable disease transmitted by deer and horse flies. Required by law on all horses in the State of Texas and checked at shows and all horse sales. Fecal Examination- Examination of the horse’s manure for evidence of internal parasites, ingested sand, and mastication or digestive abnormalities. Deworming- Parasites can lead to multiple intestinal problems including colic. There are many options for a successful deworming program. Daily dewormers such as Strongid C 2x are fed to horses in a pelleted form and are an equine anthelmintic designed to be fed on a daily basis to provide a continuous, preventive level of pyrantel in the intestinal tract. This method results in a 20% increase in feed efficiency as well as being the most efficient way to deworm. Paste dewormers are administered orally every other month; types and brands are rotated strategically (paste or daily dewormers will be provided for owner to administer depending upon which method owner prefers). Tube deworming is done bi-annually and is put directly into your horse’s stomach by your veterinarian thru a nasogastric tube. This method is recommend in conjunction with a daily dewormer such as Strongid C 2x. Ear Tick Exam/Treatment- Ear ticks are a common issue in horses and can cause extreme sensitivity, head slinging and extensive ear drum/canal damage if left untreated. Lameness screening- When performing, it is crucial to have your equine athlete sound and in tip top condition. A flexion exam will be performed to determine soundness or lameness of the horse. Lameness exam does NOT have to be performed during bi-annual appointments; a separate appointment may be made to bring horse in for lameness at any time during program enrollment. ** Health Certificates- When traveling out of state to rodeos, horse shows, or training clinics, health certificates are required to cross state lines and enter most show grounds. A total of two health certificates will be included; each is good for 30 days in state or 45 days out of state at no charge with each performance horse package. *** Additional Options : Sheath Cleaning- Male horses can develop over time what we call a “Bean” or a buildup of dirt, oils, dead skin, and smegma around the urethra. This build up can cause pain and problems when urinating and should be removed at least once per year. Males are also susceptible to a condition known as skin-fold pyoderma, in which the cracks and folds of the sheath become infected. This is an important step in maintaining a happy and healthy gelding or stallion. Blood Chemistry Profile and CBC- A chemistry profile uses enzyme levels to evaluate organ function (kidney, liver, muscle, and electrolyte abnormalities). CBC stands for complete blood count which checks for anemia and infectious processes and white blood cell disorders. This lab work can be very helpful in picking up diseases in the early stages. *All dental floating must be performed at clinic. **If lameness is found, further treatment is not included in screening or package. Further diagnostics and suggested therapies will be explained at that time. *** Additional health certificates, if needed, will be charged at regular price. Performance Horse Program Details : A member of our staff will contact you bi-annually, approximately 2-3 weeks prior to services due to schedule your appointment. Dr. Seale and a technician will provide the scheduled routine care and examine your horse(s) at each visit. According to the program chosen, a yearly supply of deworming products will be dispensed to you with labeled directions and dates to administer. Program renewal date will be on the anniversary of original date. Horses must be over one year of age to be enrolled in Garner Equine’s Optimal Health Program (the Program). Prorated refunds will be made as a credit to client’s account if an enrolled horse dies. If a horse enrolled in the Program is sold, the original owner of the horse has the option to transfer remaining services to new owner, or apply remaining services to a new or un-enrolled horse. Horses must be over one year of age to be enrolled in the Program. The additional options for the Program may be added to the package at anytime during the enrollment period. The discount associated with the Program still applies if additional options are added at a later date if clients account is still up to date. Any horse three years of age or under will also require a Strep equi (strangles) vaccination which will incur an additional charge of $17.50 (or current pricing). Lameness exam does NOT have to be performed during bi-annual appointments; a separate appointment may be made to bring horse in for lameness at any time during Program enrollment. In the lameness screening, only the flexion portion of the exam is included in the package. Any further diagnostics such as local anesthetic, radiographs, or treatment of lameness will be at an additional charge. All incentives or additional discounts associated with this Program require accounts to remain in good standing to stay in effect. No refunds or substitutions for unused services. Clients with past due accounts may not enroll horses in the Program without paying account balance in full prior to enrollment. All remaining services will be put on hold for any accounts which become past due until account is made current.
