WORD KNOWLEDGE ACTIVITIES: YEAR 3/4IB and 3/4KC TERM 3 2015 Compulsory Your choice Listed Super Sentences Write out your list words into your Spelling book. Write your list words into a sentence. The sentence must be at least 8 words long. Spelling Flowers Draw a picture of a big flower. Write each of your spelling words on one of the flower petals or on a leaf. What Do You Mean? Type ‘Em: Use a dictionary to find the meaning of each word. Type your spelling words on the computer. Make each word have a different font. Superman Letter Your job is to write a creative letter to Superman (or another super hero). In your letter, you must use each of your spelling words. Be sure to underline your list words. Hidden Words Draw and colour a picture. Hide your spelling words inside your pictures. Words Within Words Connect the Dots Backwards Words Active Words Write ten of your spelling words in dots. Then connect the dots by tracing over them with a colored pencil. Write your spelling words forwards and then backwards. Write neatly. Example: where erehw Do an activity (shoot hoops, skip, kick a soccer ball) while spelling your words. An adult must sign this off. Whacky Writing Across and Down Story Time Write each of your spelling words in a whacky font. Write each of your spelling words across and then down starting with the first letter. Example – when h e n Write a story using all of your spelling words. Underline each spelling word in your letter. Green Vowels Times Three Word Pyramids Write your words in a list but write all of the vowels in the colour green. Copy your words three times each; use a different colour for each of the three copies. Create a pyramid for each word by adding a letter at a time. Picture Perfect Words without Vowels Practice Test Draw an illustration for your list words. Write your spelling words in a list, but replace all the vowels with a line. Then go back to the beginning of your list and see if you can fill in the correct missing vowels. Have a practice test. Have someone at home ask you to spell your spelling words. Write them on a list. Check your practice test and correct any mistakes. Find at least three words using the letters in your spelling word. E.g. slide – lie, die, lids
