Thatch fires and fires in listed buildings
Query:
1. The number of thatch fires in your communities from 2005-2015
2. The cause of the fire (e.g. arson, electrical appliances, naked flames, defective
chimney flues, etc.)
3. Number of fires in listed buildings in your communities from 2005-2015 (including
English Heritage sites, sites of historic interest, castles, stately homes and
cathedrals)
4. Approximate cost to the Fire and Rescue Service
Response:
Please note, we only hold information from February 2009 onwards.
1. The number of thatch fires in your communities from 2005-2015
From February 2009 to date there has been 34 thatch fires.
2. The cause of the fire (e.g. arson, electrical appliances, naked flames, defective
chimney flues, etc.) Please see attached Excel spreadsheet
3. Number of fires in listed buildings in your communities from 2005-2015 (including
English Heritage sites, sites of historic interest, castles, stately homes and
cathedrals) As advised, we do not record whether a building is listed. We
have provided information on fires in Stately Homes, Royal Palaces, Castles,
Cathedrals, Monastery/Convents and religious buildings (temple, church
etc) as requested. From February 2009 to date there has been 14 fires in the
aforementioned building types.
4. Approximate cost to the Fire and Rescue Service. Please see attached Excel
spreadsheet. Approximate costs have been calculated using average fuel
and staff costs.
